T61 - Vista to XP

#1 Post by subii » Wed Jul 18, 2007 12:20 pm

I know there is a thread for the T60 on going from Vista to XP, but there was no final answer to what drivers were needed. http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... 790913996f

Type 7663-W1N

Issues:
1. Sound drivers will not install
2. Two unknown devices, I believe one is the modem (drivers won't install), but have no idea what the second device is.

Sound drivers: When installing the driver I get this error "The HDA Audio bus driver is required and not found" using 7ka112ww from Lenovo.

Unknown device 1: PCI Device - PCI bus 0, device 27, function 0 - Device Instance Id "pci\ven_8086&DEV_284B&SUBSYS_2Qac17aa&rev_03\3&b1bfb68&0&d8"

I think this is the modem, but the driver install says that the device is not found.

Unknown device 2: Unknown device - on Intell(R) ICH8M LPC Interface Controller - 2811 - Device Instance "acpi\atm1200\4&374ccb25&0"

Lenovo recommends that I send the system back and get one preloaded with XP. At this point in time Vista is not an option because of no Novell support, and no NDPS.

I've also got some interest in this topic as my plan (as of now) is to order a T61(p) with Vista Business and dual boot with XP (actually tri-boot with Vista, XP, and Ubuntu... but that's another discussion).

Unfortunately I dont have any answers, but I would offer one small additional question. Is there any consequence to using the Intel Turbo Memory while in XP? The way I understand it, it is reliant on the ReadyBoost/Drive so in the absense of Vista it should just sit there harmlessly... maybe...?

One of the drives in the TPM - Trusted platform module.

As for Turbo Memory.... Should be harmless.
