Fixing my A21p's hinge (or not)

#1 Post by Utwig » Wed Jul 18, 2007 9:17 pm

So, I lent my A21p to brother and when it came back the hinge was broken.

The damage can be seen bellow:

What I'd like to know is which parts I'd need to order and replace?
How much would that cost? I can replace parts myself, the only expense would be the parts.

If it would cost too much to replace them, then probably buy another similar thinkpad and sell this one. How much should I charge brother then.

MOD EDIT: Pictures overlimit, modified to links.

It looks like you need a right hinge and a hinge cover. What is the 7 digit machine type/model of your A21P? (see the bottom sticker. It will look something like - 2373-xxx)

If you're using it as a desktop replacement, leave the hinge as is and don't do anything...

If you're actually travelling with it, then the replacement will be needed. I believe that you can pull down the instructions from Lenovo's website...

Good luck!

The actual hinge is a metal fixture underneath a plastic cover. However that (pic4) looks like the bottom case is broken - which is more serious than a hinge/cover. You'll need to buy a new bottom case from ebay or elsewhere (search for "thinkpad A2* parts") - I think any of the A2* series should fit but check the hardware manual first.

The right hinge has 2 screws from the back and one screw inside the machine. You'll need to pull the machine apart to fix it - not hard if you have the hardware manual. You may be able to fix the case using a super glue if
