can my old T23 use Hitachi 100GB 7200rpm PATA HDD?

#1 Post by rbi » Wed Jul 18, 2007 11:39 pm

I would like to upgrade the old T23 (windows 2000 pro, 20GB only) HDD to a new 2.5" 100GB Hitachi IDE PATA HDD 7200rpm 8MB Cache? Can the motherboard support it?
Secondly, how can I keep the F11 and the hidden R & R as I don't have any R & R disk? Many thanks.

Yes, it will work. You could clone the entire disk (resizing partitions) with something like Acronis True Image or Symantec Ghost; this will also copy over the recovery partition.

Thanks tomh009. You mean I can do it even with the trial version? :) How's your Lenovo USB webcam doing? Is it nice in terms of quality of video and the built-in microphone?

As I recall, even the trial version would do it ... but it's been a while since I used the trial.

The webcam is good so far, but have only done testing. Serious overseas video connections to be tried yet!

The trial version of Acronis True Image works. I just did this exact thing on a T41 with a new 7K100.

Sorry it is 5400rpm. Can I ask if I need to upgrade my motherboard bios or other things to accommodate the new HDD? Thanks. :D

While you should not need a BIOS upgrade for the disk, I would suggest you do it as a part of your system upgrade process anyway.
