T40 no video out

Just picked up t40 w/o LCD, but does have cable and inverter. Also has optical drive and no hard drive... when I connect it to VGAout, and power on, there is activity like the machine is working, with the battery light and power light lit.. no beeping sounds, but NO OUTPUT TO EXTERNAL MONITOR>>>> have tried FN keys w/o any avail.... is the video chip shot?? should I even bother getting an LCD for it?

I'm not sure I'd blame it on the video chip specifically, but the motherboard is most likely shot.

what other options do I have to check to see if it works???
will svideo output during boot?
not having VGA work , would that mean the LCD would not work also?

does anyone know if LCD from r40 work with t40?

also,is there any way to figure out what each lcd fru corresponds to in terms of actual manufacturer number?
