T42p 15" UXGA Impressions ... WOW (thanks Bill!)
A client of mine purchased a 2373-KXU from Bill on my recommendation. Everything about the transaction was flawless: Bill's communication, delivery, pricing, everything. The system arrived Tuesday, and tonight, I got to set it up for him. It too is flawless, not a single bad pixel, no rattling battery (yes it is a 9-cell), and the keyboard feels great. A truly awesome machine. I am blown away.
Considering a new Thinkpad? Concerned about the 14" vs. 15" size or build quality issue? Here's the bottom line. You need to see one of these systems for yourself! One man's "brick" is another man's "beauty." I don't mean to slight anyone here - we've all got opinions, that's natural - but you've got to make your own decision and NOTHING takes the place of seeing one in person! After tonight, it clear to me that my next laptop will be a 15" UXGA T42p.
The computer is INCREDIBLY thin (to me), and VERY light given it's size. Yes it's bigger than the 14" - for a great reason! The screen is positively breathtaking, bright, clear, flawless. Out of the box, 1600x1200 is a little hard on the eyes, until you select 120dpi fonts and re-enable ClearType. Then it is compete and total eye candy.
The build quality is every bit as good as any I've seen on any Thinkpad I've ever touched. Absolutely awesome. The 9-cell battery fits perfectly, and, the slight rearward protrusion isn't much at all (again, to me). The hard drive is amazingly fast.
Setup was a breeze. The IBM a/b/g adapter connected immediately to his 3Com "g" access point with a strong, clear signal. I helped him make a few adjustments, made sure everything was working, and left him with a broad smile on his face.
Good work IBM!

Sugo,
I have not seen a 14.1" T4x, that is true, however I have only used 14.1" Thinkpads ever, from my first 600 to a T21 to my T30 now. I agree the form factor is perfect. To *ME*, the added size of the 15" UXGA is more than justified by the utility and beauty of the larger screen.
Cakos,
Must be something wrong with your Firefox. I am using v1.0PR (preview release) and it looks like this (1600x1200 in a 20" LCD is a beautiful thing):

Granted, Bills site is not the best in terms of design, however, I personally could care less. I can find the info I need (I don't mind scrolling) and besides, I spend all my time in the forums anyway.

Same here....The top of the page look perfectly fine, just like your screenshot...the problem appears in the SOME LINKS, HINTS and a DOWNLOAD section...way down the page.kjarrett wrote: Cakos,

Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww! Right you are! Mea culpa!
Bill uses FrontPage (*COUGH*) ... this is a great example of how Micro$haft "bends the rules" to make things easier/more convenient for web developers, at the risk of generating crappy output for non-MS browsers.
Don't worry, Bill's on it!

Bah! Static web pages are *SO* 1999. The future, my friends, is database driven websites. Take a look at the one I built for my school:mattfromomaha wrote:Do I hear an ad for DreamWeaver?!?!?!

and the weblog I maintain for my fellow teachers:
http://www.ncs-tech.org
The school site runs PostNuke, a free content management system (CMS).
The weblog is Wordpress, a free weblog/CMS.
Not so easy to install and configure, but once it's up ... it's a breeze to maintain.
Code on,

Yeah, not to piss off Bill or nothing...but categorizing the laptops somehow, perhaps two ways such as by price and by model and then making quick links to the different subsections would be kinda nice. I find the list a bit long to scroll through and you have to really sit down and read through each one carefully as there is no particular ordering to the list other than price (somewhat) that I can tell of. I think Bill is great for running this site and really appreciate his work. I just think some quick fixups might help his sales...and more money never hurt anyone
