#1 Post by atarimaster » Fri Jul 20, 2007 6:03 pm

i just installed :http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820144063

and when i boot the system, windows gets to the login page and crashes (black screen)...... in bios it shows the full 2gb ..... but when i run the memory test on each stick separately it gets to 485mb and then hangs

I would return it and try a more reliable brand such as Crucial.

Did you try to swap the sticks around in the slots?

G.Skill is good, cheap RAM. Try that.

I agree 100%. It's important to get quality ram and be done with it. It may be a bit more expensive, but you get what you pay for. Over many years I've experimented and tried a variety of brands and keep coming back to Crucial. I've not had one failure with their memory.

WOW .... i tried the RAM in my friends DELL and it worked perfectly .... i guess it's a CAS timings or voltage related issue ..... so are there anyways to tweak those settings in bios?

I don't think so. You're up against a wall, unless you use those software overclocking. But I wouldn't recommending using those.

With all due respect I look at it this way, how much time is worth spending (and your time is quite valuable) trying to identify this or that about some ram related issue when one can just buy the best (crucial) and be done with it. I don't work for them, I am just another computer user like all the rest of us, who happens to have many years of experience with laptops, memory, etc as it's what I do for a living.

Respectfully at some point, I personally find it most economical to simply avoid these types of issues when I know that by ordering the best ram, I can install it and forget about it for the life of the computer. Something that is more than worth the price for me.

Cheers... and good luck.

I don't have a problem using generic RAM as I've never had a problem with it. Of course, if there's a $10 difference between that and Kingston RAM, you better bet that I'm going with Kingston.
