Think i can save this battery???

#1 Post by SaberX » Sat Jul 21, 2007 11:42 am

I have an A22P here.
The battery info is :
Panasonic
Manufacture date is 2002-05-13
first use date:2003-02
FRU:IBM-02K6615
Design capacity:58.32Wh
Full charge capacity:45.29Wh
The Battery Health showes Green with a Cycle Count of 85.

When i first got the laptop i pluged it in to full charge the battery.I than unpluged it to see how long it would last.
With the UXGA lcd set to high and on the web useing a PCMCIA Wi-fi "B" card i got about 2 hr's.

I than fully charged the battery again and than got about the same time on just the battery a 2nd time.
But today i tryed it again and when the battery got to 80% left it than droped to only 5% left and than shut down.Total time of about 15 min's.

Is it common for a battery to go from 100% down to 80% as normal(down by 1% at a time) than from 80% drop to less than 5%?

I'm charging it back up now and it says 2hr:56min's to full charge.

I never seen a laptop battery do this befor.
Can it be saved?

Have you "Reconditioned" your laptop battery ? Seems like battery is loosing charge..And its pretty obvious.
Each year battery loose approx 15 % charge.

I have ran the battery down to nothing about 5 or 6 times now. Here is the web page that i went by...http://helpdesk.morrisville.edu/BatteryNoDisk.htm

I know this battery is a few years old but going from 80% down to under 5% in just a few sec's.
Funny thing is when it is at 0% and than pluged in charging,it will go uo like 10%,11%,12%,13%,14%,15% and so on all the way to 100% after about 3 hr's.
It's like if theres 6 cells in there , it's only working on 1 maybe 2 of them.

You may have a couple of bad cells in the battery pack.

Maybe it has to do with the power input itself (the round yellow tube into which you insert your power plug)

For example, my battery remains at 0% b/c the power input is so badly damaged that there is not enough current.

how much time it stays at 0% after it runs down from 100%?

i ask you this because i have 2 panasonic batteries in 2 separate TP's and both go to 0% after some time...and stay there abut 30 min or more...

i have only seen this behavior on panasonic celled batteries other types would have died when reached 0%.

unless the AC adapter is adjusted,

it remains at 0% forever. Sometimes it powers out.

Strange... this sounds exactly like what I've read about batteries in the TP600 series, suddenly going from a high charge to 5% or so. The cause has apparently not been determined, but there are plenty of guesses. One of the recommendations was to remove the battery if you're using the computer on AC power, since the charging system is suspected.
