Custom factory restore on a new computer

When my new X61 Tablet arrives, I wish to perform a custom factory restore before even logging into windows for the first time. Is that possible?

I don't want to lose time setting up vista for the first time. I'd like to get rid of everything except the neccessary preinstalled software and therefore would like to perform factory restore as soon as i press the power switch on for the first time. Is it possible?

Also - is the Thinkvantage software listed as a single check or can I (un)check every single ThinkVantage feature when performing factory restore?

Yes it is possible, just press the blue thinkvantage button after powering up your notebook.

A combination of both. Important stuff like Rescue and Recovery, creating recovery media won't be listed but most other thinkvantage applications will be presented to you to choose from.

Don't all Thinkpads come at factory settings? Why'd you want to do that again?

Also, I'm not sure about the newer model, but I certainly didn't have a choice to choose anything to install/not install when I do a factory restore.

Yes all thinkpads come with factory settings but users can re-do it, just to get rid of applications that don't interest them.

I am not sure how old is your thinkpad nevertheless I believe this option is not check marked by default and you have to specifically choose it from the given choices during the restore process.

The custom restore option is only about a year old.
