[T60P] alternative to svideo out here ?

#1 Post by kpoman » Sun Jul 22, 2007 8:57 am

Hi,
I own a Thinkpad T60P without svideo out connector. I really need to be able to connect the thinkpad to a TV. I have read some stuff on the internet, and there seems to exist an VGA to RCA adapter. However the pages that sell this thing say clearly :

# It will work with laptops and desktops with VGA cards that has TV-Out function capability through the VGA connector.

# Please check your PC & Video Card manual or manufacturer to make sure that your VGA card has TV-Out function capability through the VGA connector to ensure this cable will work for you!

So I wonder if there is a way to do this or if someone already made it work and ATI graphic card and Catalyst driver allows connecting the vga through the adapter to a TV and if it works ?
Please I really need some info about this !

Thank you all,

Based on prior discussions here, the T60(p) does not include the TV-out signals on the VGA connector -- nor do most other laptops.

Thanks for your reply !
So, this graphic card which is one of the best on the market isn't good even doing that ? I am quiet disappointed there ! Is there some official link saying explicitly that the card cant do that ??
And if that is the case, what is the alternative to having TV out funcionality on this laptop ?
I am very frustrated right now :(

The use of VGA connector pins to carry S-video signals is an extension outside the VGA spec, so no one generally will specify that it's not supported. But very few video cards will actually support it.

The only way is with an active converter ... the cheapest ones I know of are the ones from Grandtec:
