Will the Boe Hydis uxga panel work in a 15" T42P

#1 Post by skuff » Sun Jul 22, 2007 11:37 pm

Does anyone know if I can put the Boe Hydis UXGA IPS panel designed for the T60/P in a T42P that is currently using the IDTech uxga IPS panel?

So I took a gamble on this and bought one of the Boe Hydis panels, sold in the t60P and installed it in my t42P that had an ID Tech uxga panel. It works like a champ and is nicer than the ID Tech panel by a small margin.

good to know.   if my T61p doesn't work for me then i'll throw a BOE panel in my T42p and keep it for a while longer.   thanks for the info!

That's very interesting. Did you have to shoehorn a T60p LCD cable into your T42p, or were you able to just use the existing cable and inverter?

I was able to use the existing flex cable and inverter that was installed in the T42P.

Here is the link to the panel I bought (they have more). It is perfect in every way (no dead pixels, etc.)

Wow, $304 shipped. Can someone tell me why I am having difficulty selling mine for $189 shipped here? Is $189 too much?

your panel is an ID Tech, not a BOE Hydis.   the BOE panels are better and more rare, therefore demanding a higher price.

I see, but isn't the $115 difference enough to compensate for that? What should my ID Tech be worth, $100?

no, ID Tech panels sell on ebay for around your price.   perhaps you should list it on ebay.

Good idea. I will make my eBay debut then!

EDIT: Hmm, the cheapest one on eBay is currently $268 shipped. I can't believe I have trouble selling mine for $189 shipped.

Hate to say it, but there's a difference between the backlight that was used in T42ps and earlier and T43p and in some T60ps, even when both are IDtechs. From the tests on notebookcheck.com, it achieves more than 500:1 contrast ratio too.

Pianowizard, i don't know why it doesn't sell either. Perhaps the mod is too "hardcore" for most people. If i lived in the US and needed the screen i'd buy it. My experience is, if you do ship worldwide... don't do it with LCDs. They are really easy to damage, not crack, but they develop pressure marks really easy, considering how rough post offices handles packages, and stack most things. :(
All things aside, the thinkpad sales forum here is small compared to ebay, so i think you should list it on ebay too. Remember to have many (and clear) photos, and describe the condition in detail :)

his is from an R50p, making it an older/earlier ID Tech panel.   the hydis panel supposedly achieves 100:1 better contrast than these panels and noticeably better brightness.
