Just ordered...

#1 Post by joprodse » Mon Jul 23, 2007 2:05 pm

Ooups...
I just placed an order for a X61T, SXGA+, 1,6Ghz C2D, 1+1GB RAM, 80GB HDD, ABGN WL, X6 w DVD+-RW, Vista Business and so on...
I now have to wait 2-3 weeks for it here in sweden (that sucks... ) , but is there anyone running Adobe PS CS3 and Lightroom 1.1 on a similar config.? And if so, what are your experience regarding performance?
Right now I'm running those apps on my X32 (PM 2,0Ghz, 1GB RAM and an 7200rpm drive) and it's really "slow" when rendering large RAW-format images...
I assume the C2D processor will make a difference, but would you go for even more RAM?

It will probably do fine with your 2GB of total RAM, but you might find replacing one of the 1GB DIMMS with a 2GB for 3GB total might be in your best interests. I say this because 32bit operating systems like Vista Business will only see 3GB maximum-you would have to install a 64bit version of Vista for it to take advantage of your maximum allowable 4GB.

Keep your fingers crossed that it will only take 2-3 weeks to receive your X61t. It seems like for many people that ordered in June, they are still waiting for theirs to ship-and their estimated shipping dates are being pushed back into August. Most of these that are having to wait also ordered the SXGA+ screen and that seems to be causing the delays.

You may want to do a search of some online retailers for preconfigured 'Top Seller' models that may already have the machines in stock, or at least could get them from a warehouse within a week. Best of luck!

Outside the US, preconfigured models are all that anyone can buy -- the CTO capability is strictly US only.

I was not aware of that-then hopefully Jocke will receive his in a timely manner!

Does anyone see, like I do, that the preconfigured X61t models in those stores are usually cheaper than ordering the CTO from Lenovo site? Is there anything I should be concerned if ordering those topseller models?

Besides, some of those stores have X61 tablet in-stock, while lenovo site leave us waiting for 3-4 weeks, (and .. with crossing fingers).

Absolutely not-although some people might have a very specific build that they want, I honestly don't see why people bypass the top seller models. There are enough top seller models that should fulfill anyone's configuration needs, and from what I have seen they all come standard with a 3 year depot warranty. On top of that, some retailers sell these top seller models WAY below what you would pay Lenovo to configure one and wait a month or so for it to arrive. Plus, you can get the top seller models to your door within a week or less in most cases.

I know people are getting tired of me mentioning my deal, but it bears repeating. Look at the specs of my 7767-B7U, and then configure one on Lenovo's site. After you pay taxes-for an identical config including the 3 year warranty to a 7767-B7U-it will be right at $2100-2200. Special coupons will get it a bit lower, but it still won't touch the $1550 shipped that techonweb.com offers.

I thought at first they made a price mistake, but its been almost a week and the price has not changed-they are just selling it closer to its 'true' cost. There is nothing fishy at all about these models at these prices-just take advantage of the great deals!
