Problem with A31 LCD bezel

#1 Post by schen » Mon Jul 23, 2007 4:39 pm

I'm in the process of upgrading an A31 project machine. It originally came with a 14" LCD without wireless. I acquired a 15" LCD assembly, then got a wireless housing with the built-in antennas. The transfer of the screen to the new housing was trouble free, however the bezel just won't snap down right. When comparing the wireless and the wired housings, I can't tell that there's any difference, and the bezel seems to be the right size, but I just can't seem to get the sides to stay put.

Any of you guys know if there my be some minute differences that I might be overlooking or whether the A3x bezel requires some trick I haven't tried yet?

I did the same exact thing, upgrading my A31 from 14" to 15". Also having that same issue where the left side doesn't snap in all the way. I've left like that, but if anyone has a solution I would greatly appreciate as well. Thanks, schen for the post.

Hello Guys,

I can't comment on doing the replacement, from 14" to 15" as my own A31 came with 15" when bought.

It didn't have wireless when I got it and I fitted the antenna about a year ago. Like you I got the same result on the bezel for my first two tries. Then I went back for a third try and did get it done perfectly.

From memory the problem was in making absolutely sure that nowhere were the antenna leads preventing the LCD hinges from sitting right down flat on the 'back' of the LCD casing or in any way causing the hinges to twist to even a slight angle. To prevent that happening you will need to look on the main LCD casing for quite small plastic bracket type structures (they might be mistaken for being purely 'spacers' to keep the hinges clear of the sides of the main casing. From memory, I think the fix was to make sure that the antenna leads were 'clipped' under those brackets, and that they stayed there while trying to the get the bezel to fit snuggly.

It took me ages to get it right, about and hour and a half, and think I had to use some insulation tape just to get the lead wires to stay put.

Again from memory, I think there was on both hinges alignment holes that are meant to snap (they don't quite 'snap') about midway down each hinge arm. You need to make sure that the plastic 'knobs' are in the holes. Also for the right-hand hinge, which has two stepped (indented) areas down its main length, those stepped parts were a main source of pinching the antenna and hence of twisting the hinge to an angle. I'd pay very close attention around those two areas. (I hope I've explained that well enough to make sense.)

In all it's really the hinges that are the problem - the slightest twist, or raising of them from the back of the case, stops the bezel from going down correctly. I found that even the slightest pinch on the antenna wires anywhere did just that to the hinges.

If you give the above a try then I'll think you'll meet with success but I found it really fiddly.

If you still can't get it then I'll take the bezel off my machine and check that my memory isn't off skew a bit - but I don't want to do that unless really necessary. Just post back and let me know.

Thanks, BuddhaNature. Now, I'll have to have the desire for fiddle around with my A31 and that doesn't happen too often (sigh) :|

THANKS! :D That's exactly what I'm looking for. I'll just have to go through the thing mm by mm.
