I just got my R61 and run the vista business. Can anyone tell me how to burn the R & R disks via Thinkvantage?? Thanks!

Start > All programs > Thinkvantage > Create Recovery Media.

Make sure you don't use DVD-RAM for Rescue Media at all and don't use the same media to burn the first disk of Product Recovery disk.

More inside details can be found here.

Thanks ryengineer. But why don't use the same media to burn the first disk of Product Recovery disk?(you mean the DVD media or the CD)

Straight from lenovo:
The Thinkvantage Rescue and Recovery workspace does not support booting from a DVD-RAM disc. As a result, do not create rescue media, Product Recovery CDs, backups, or archive backups where the first disc of the set is DVD-RAM media. Other DVD formats are supported.

The first disk is just a R&R boot cd. The actual restore image is on the rest of the disks.

May I ask if I can burn the R & R onto a set of DVD-Rs or just DVD+Rs or a combination of CDs and DVDs? What's the requirement for the media except for DVD-RAM?

You can use any combination except with DVD-RAM. But to be precise, lenovo uses 3 DVD-R or 1 CD-R / 2 DVD-R combinations to burn Product recovery disks that it sends to customers.

Hello,
I just made my R&R and it only took
1 DVD+R for startup(what a waste)
1 DVD+R for Product Recovery 1

I thought there is supposed to be more.

should I re-do the whole thing again?

thanks

Seems normal, I too have the Product Recovery disks on a pair of DVD's, I tested them out though, perhaps you can do the same. Please do back up all your important data on an external media beforehand.

thanks, I assume, what you mean by testing them is to run the recovery procedure.

Thanks

Mine took: 1 CD (startup) & 3 DVDs -- this on a T61p with Vista Ultimate. Was your system XP? Maybe since you used a DVD for the first it put in more stuff? Maybe call support and ask.

For a T42, this is all that is needed. Not sure about a T60 with XP, but I suspect it is the same.

You will not be able to re-do the whole thing again if the process completed successfully. The only way to redo it again would be to restore factory contents first.
