X61 Tablet.. Performance?

#1 Post by NaT » Tue Jul 24, 2007 12:24 am

I'm new to a tablet world and have been using T-series for a long long time. Lately I have concern about my thinkpad weight for on the road jobs. My T43p weighs 6.6lbs (3kg), with second HDD and 9-cell batt. I'm looking for an upgrade and deciding between the new T61p and X61 Tablet.

In terms of performance, will an upgrade from Intel Centrino (Sonoma) 2.13GHz 2M L2, 533FSB to Core2Duo L7500 1.6GHz 4M L2, 800FSB be an downgrade? Will I gain any performance improvement at all? Has any has upgraded from similar system?

For graphics accelerator, how is the GMA X3100 perform?

For digitizing pen, is it also normal that when we hover the pen above the screen, about an inch or less, the mouse cursor also moving with it? Is it also happen in X61 Tablet?

For weigh and form factor, is it comfortable when holding X61 tablet in one hand, and using the other hand to write on it, like working on a paper notebook? I tried a fujitsu one (also 12.1" 4.3lbs) yesterday and I think it was bulky and too heavy.

Thank you.

Alright, I found an X61 tablet review which answers my questions in http://www.tabletpcreview.com/default.asp?newsID=868 in terms of CPU performance, my T43p SuperPI is running at 1:35m vs. X61 Tablet's 1.60GHz at 1:11m so this is some upgrade. For GMA X3100, from the benchmark I think we can't expect anything from it, since it's just a low-end one. I don't mind that much anyway.

I've not done any 3D stuff on this X61t yet, so I can't comment on the graphics card.

CPU performance is very good. Keep in mind, it's a dual core, too - so it can run two tasks at full speed, whereas your T43p can only run one.

I find that the X61t is pretty comfortable weight-wise. With the 8-cell battery, it gives a VERY nice hand-hold to grab onto while writing.

if you think the fujitsu was heavy the x61 would feel heavy as well, try go for the 4-cell battery.
