I'm constantly running Mobmeter and this happens usually when the CPU and HDD temps are low at around 33 degrees celcius.
Is it trying to say.."I'm dying....put me back to sleep.."...?
nope, can't do anything . all video files cause this problem after a long standby.rkawakami wrote:Can you CTRL-ALT-DEL and bring up the Task Manager during the "freeze"?
Is it a particular video file that is causing the problem or ALL video files?
Does the file(s) play normally IF the laptop was never put into standby mode?

thanks. i've tried removing one module and switching between them with same results..works fine until i put it to standby and play again...i did notice something new - this only happens with 720x400 and 720x544 video files..! I'm using fffdshow ver Oct 12 2004 ...could this be the problem? i'll try to upgrade it and see if there's any difference.rkawakami wrote:My gut feeling says it's the memory (being a memory test engineer, that's not a huge leap). There have been problems that I know of for some memories when exiting the "power down" mode which I believe is used in standby. If you can, either swap out all of your modules with others or if you have two, remove one of them. Repeat your standby/view video file sequence and see if that helps.
Your comment about hibernation not doing this is leading me to this conclusion. In standby, the memory is active, albeit at a lower power level. Hibernation, on the other hand, copies your memory's contents into a disk file for retrieval later on, before powering down everything.
i've upgraded fffdshow to the latest stable version with no change..tomer wrote: thanks. i've tried removing one module and switching between them with same results..works fine until i put it to standby and play again...i did notice something new - this only happens with 720x400 and 720x544 video files..! yep..didn't work. any other ideas..?truk wrote:Have you tried reinstalling your video card drivers? I've heard of a similar problem with sound playback due to the sound driver not sleeping properly.
