#1 Post by auchenberg » Tue Jul 24, 2007 11:35 am

Hey all

Ive just found this article http://news.com.com/8301-10784_3-974800 ... 47-1_3-0-5

I'm ordering my X61 Tablet next week, so it would be nice to know if there are upcoming models ahead..

Does anybody know something?

The bluetooth option of thinkpad laptops will probably allow you to do the same thing without USB wireless. If this option is not selected when you ordered your laptop, I guess that there are bluetooth express cards on the market allowing you to make the same short-distance wireless connections.

Bluetooth's speeds are nothing compared to UWB (ultra-wide band) wireless USB... Compare theoretical limits, Bluetooth can go 3.0 Mbit/sec, wireless USB can go 480 Mbit/sec.

From what I was told, new models are POSSIBLE in mid october, but it's far from being certain and it's not actually new model but rather a bit different configuration, possibly with no major changes. That's why I just ordered mine pronto.
I thought about it and figured than if I waited, I could simply keep on waiting as there will always be some little upgrades and changes.

Right. Actual new models will not arrive until next summer.

Okay... Thanks.. I'm ordering my new X61 tablet :)

After a little bit of research, it appears that Lenovo will be using WiQuest's Wireless USB PCI Express® Half Mini Card according to this source Certified Wireless USB Products arrive with WiQuest Silicon

Since its a PCIExpress card (Not ExpressCard!), and the X61Tablet got two of these slots it might be possible to add WUSB to the current models, right?. I could use one for TurboMemory and one for WUSB?

The main question in matter is the antenna...

But since the next version of Bluetooth (Bluetooth 3.0) will be using UWA/WUSB. It should be possible to change the original Bluetooth antenna with a new UWA/WUSB, right?

I don't know if it would work in the real world but in theory it should :)

Wireless USB has so far been pretty disappointing in terms of performance and adoption. It'll take quite a while for that change.

My X61 Tablet arrives with ABGN wireless and no WWAN (not available at all here). Turbo memory is not available either. That also means, probably, that I have no free mini PCI slots left, am I correct?

Most likely the second slot will not be there. But we'd like you to check anyway, once your X61 tablet arrives. :)

Hehe, will try to find out. Although I will only be adding more RAM and i guess seeing miniPCI slots would need more open hatches...
