VGA port not working
VGA port not working
I'm using a T60P and yesterday the VGA stopped working. My monitor is working (I plugged it into my desktop) and I tested the VGA by plugging it into my roommates monitors.
I did not recently update my computer and I went back to factory install to make sure that it wasn't caused by anything that I have installed. Alas the port still isn't working. The funny thing is that I still detect the monitor. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on what may the cause of this?

I've tried using Fn+F7 to cycle through the presentation modes and that did not work.
The monitor has been tested with my roommate's T60 and it is indeed working; however when I try to use T60 with his monitor it does not work (same problem). I think the VGA may have burned out, is that possible?

I called tonight and the box is coming in on Thursday(7/26). I've read good and bad posts about easyserv and was wondering what should I keep on the laptop? I know that i will not be sending in my battery, and peripherals to easyserv; but should I also take out the wireless card and hard drive?

Remove every CRU that you can that has nothing to do with the failure.lavieest wrote:I called tonight and the box is coming in on Thursday(7/26). had same problem - found a fix
I had exact same problem - suddenly lost ability to send video to VGA port.
Boot into BIOS - F1 - then ctrl-F7. If your external monitor works, then it's NOT hardware issue.
Now uninstall the ATI driver s/w from add/remove programs. It will rip all out ATI elements but leave behind a bunch of registry keys. When you reboot - do NOT install new driver.
Run Registry Mechanic to clean out all the ATI related keys - I had 590! Note that I had run the cleaner right before the ATI ripout, so all the loose keys were ATI-related.
Reboot and reinstall the ATI s/w from the Lenovo updater.
Voila! Working again. Seems like my power management related issues (sleep and hibernate are faster, more responsive).
Saved me having to replace a motherboard, which was where I was headed next.

I don't believe that it's an issue with ati. This is because I had used rescue and recovery to do a complete factory restore. Therefore any of the offending keys should have been removed.
I do want to thank you guys for all your help though, it's been wonderful having so many knowledgeable people help me out and not call me derogatory terms.

Sorry for activating an old topic again, but I do have the same problem as lavieest. Hence my question, what was the cause of the failure and did Lenovo fix it?
Speaking of which, how long does it usually take to service a thinkpad? How long will I will have to make do without machine approximately?
I live in the UK.
Thanks

My personal thoughts are that this was due to heat issue. This is because my roommate(also with a T60) that had a vibrantly pink hue to his external monitor. Upon moving the laptop further from the wall it disappeared. Turn around was relatively fast for me, around 5 days; this was in the US though, so take it with a grain of salt.
