R50e max supported hdd ?

#1 Post by sco1984 » Thu Jul 26, 2007 2:26 am

Hi,
I need urgent help! I have IBM ThinkPad R50e-1834-EQ1 laptop.

Existing hard disk is 40 gb . I want to upgrade to 80 gb. I want to know if 80 gb 7200 rpm/5400 rpm hdd is supported as primary hdd.

I called IBM tech support, but they cant say if its supported. In there product launch list 60 gb was the max hdd launched.

At google also results not showing any good information. Anybody can help ? I need to upgrade my hdd to 80 gb as soon as possible.

Thanx,
Amey Abhyankar.

I see no reason why the drives won't work as long as you get the right connector, IDE in this case.

Remember Pentium III 500 Mhz and earlier versions ? Motherboards of those processors wasnt supported 40 gb hdd. And thus jumper setting would make it 32 gb hdd .

I am not so sure may be this thing also exists in e series in Thinkpad as e series laptops are cheap in cost and dont offer much features . I thought there are some limitation . Plus silly IBM tech support guy said this perticular model launched with 60 gb hd max. So they dont no if 80 gb hdd supports this model.

Thats why I was in puzzle. I also did search @ thinkwiki site. There they mentioned 30,40 & 60 bg hdd in there spec's. Anyways. If 80 gb 7200 hard disk will suit my laptop that will be great. I currently running VISTA & due to 4200 RPM hdd VISTA is not giving 100 % good performance. I upgraded ram 512 + 256. Now it's hdd time..
:D

Earlier I was thinking to buy a new DELL laptop. But i cant sell my ThinkPad... :) And price of new ThinkPads is too high. Better to keep upgrading..Ha !!! In mid 07 I'll add 1 GB more ram + will keep 512. 8)

Thanx for your input.
