Interested in 750Ps...

First off, is it worth it? I do enjoy tinkering with old hardware, and with it being the second convertible tablet ever...

How much do they typically go for nowadays? What about RAM cards?

How hard is it to find a decent battery for one, or rebuild a battery pack (I know they're NiMH) if one goes bad?

Alternately, would it be a better idea to get a GRiD 2260, the first convertible tablet ever? (Which is important, but...) Another upside would be that I have a .rar with Windows for Pen Computing and drivers for the GRiD 2260 and 2050, but I don't have Windows for Pen Computing for a ThinkPad, so I'd have to hope I could find it for one, or luck out and get one with the preload intact. A HUGE downside would be that the 2260 is much slower.

I have a 750P. I haven't seen one for sale in a long time. I did get a 750C a while back for $5 plus shipping, for what THAT's worth.

You can get a 32MB RAM card for $10 if you shop carefully. There are some places that still have boxes of new parts. Try a local parts shop if you're anywhere near a big city. I hear Ohio has a few. :)

You can get a new battery pack from Kahlon for $75. I don't use my machine at all any more, and it doesn't have a battery at all.

There's also the 360P and uhm... 710T? So there are a couple other ThinkPad tablets out there. The 360P has a color screen, IIRC. I can send you the pen driver for the ThinkPads if you want it. PM me with your e-mail address.

The preload for these things was DOS or Windows 3.1, but Win95 ran on mine pretty well. IBM never made drivers for Win98 though.

Well, I know of the other models (2521 ThinkPad/ThinkPad 700T, 710T, 730T, 730TE, 360P, and 360PE,) but I think I'm mainly interested in the 750P due to the fact that it is their first convertible (yes, I know the 360P and 360PE are the same basic machine,) and due to parts compatibility with the other 750/360 machines (as opposed to the GRiD machines, which are only compatible with themselves.)

I have ZERO plans of running 98 on this beast... heck, even 95 would be a stretch. A huge part of me wants to get one running as it would have run in 1993, and then directly compare it to the X61t I'm getting, which obviously means Windows 3.1.

If you could go ahead and e-mail me the pen drivers, that'd be great. My e-mail is my username at gmail dot com. (I don't care if it's public, I just don't have public display on to prevent it from getting spammed harder than it already is. The spam filter is pretty good, though. )

Of course... if you don't use your 750P... would you be willing to sell it?

I wish I had the preload. I did make the 15-floppy set, but diskette 7 is corrupt. Bah.

I just looked, and it's easier for me to link to the driver. This page (http://www.westerninteractive.com/ohlan ... 30Tos.html) says the driver name is ddtps110.exe and here's what looks like an archive of IBM's mobiles collection from some time ago:

Find that file there and away you go. Join me on the RULE Project (Run Up-to-date Linux Everywhere) which is really dead right now and help me liven up the place. I can't promise much time to the effort, but I'll do what I can. My machine has 36MB RAM and a 20GB hard drive ready to go into it. A pen with Linux could be awesome.

My 750P isn't only my first ThinkPad, it's my first PC ever. It's worth more to me than any sane person would pay for it.

Ah, it's just THAT file. I thought it was too small to be what I was looking for... I had already grabbed it.

Sucks about disk 7 being corrupt... maybe upload the other 14 images, though? See if someone can complete the set?

Gotcha on it being your first thinkpad... ended up selling my first, my X21, but that did suck... but I still have my first computer, an Apple //c. I'll never sell that.

You know, I bet that's the driver for PenDOS. That'd make sense, with the tiny file size...

So, has anyone else seen any 750Ps for sale lately? How much did they go for? (So I know what to expect, or even a price range for a WTB...)
