R40 Wireless Light

#1 Post by elite-elitist » Fri Jul 27, 2007 2:11 pm

The wireless light on my R40 won't go on. The wireless card works. I am typing this on the machine using the wireless connection.

I am using Ubuntu and a mini-pci card that wasn't intended for the R40 though. Could that do it?

I'm using a AR5212 802.11abg NIC on a 2724BU1.

It's not a big deal, I'm just curious why it's not working.

Yes, that will do it. Apaprently, only IBM-approved cards (or some Intel cards) will control the wireless light properly. I had this problem with one Atheros card I had, and despite fidding with various configuration files to try and activate the lines on the Mini-PCI card I could only get the line to work if the computer locked up while the light was on.
