Installed VISTA.. some things don't work though..

#1 Post by Vasant56 » Fri Jul 27, 2007 6:37 pm

Hi,

I just installed VISTA on my T42, and I went to the link in the Drivers Sticky above.

Unfortunately a few things don't work:

I can't use the middle button to scroll with the trackpoint

I'm also unable to press FN-F3 or FN-F7 to turn off the monitor or switch display types (and nothing that used to show up in XP shows up anymore)

I can't seem to see my volume controls either (pressing volume up/down doesn't show anything (although it does work)

The keyboard customizer utility doesn't install so I have no windows key =(

Lastly, I installed the System Update program, and everytime I try to update I get prompted saying my TP model number is "TP-1R___", if I click okay i get:

"Error 75 received from the Package Index Server. Please contact the Support Center."

Any ideas on how to resolve any of these?

well did you install the ultranav/trackpoint driver? That only comes with that driver.

You need power manager and the presentation director install for those to work as it did before. The presentation director isn't really needed in Vista tho since VIsta manages external displays nicely.

Volume controls, you gotta install the Hotkey Driver to get onscreen display.

For the keyboard customiser the one out now isn't for Vista (apparently) so you gotta wait for that one.

Last issue, dunno.

Hi, I've tried installing all those, but nothing seems to work. Could I have messed it up somehow? The only thing that shows up in my list of programs is the Power Management Driver and System Update..

Please try to uninstall system update and reinstall again. Using SU for loading and updating drivers is the best way to go.

If not be sure to go thru following list: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-55386

Latest bios
Power Management Driver
Lenovo System Interface driver
Hotkey Features
either UltraNav Driver and Utility or Mouse/Trackpoint Driver
Intel LAN Driver
WLAN Drivers
Easy Eject Utility
Vista Registry Patches
Keyboard Customizer (if you need it)

And keep in mind that the power manager is not compatible with the T42!

No luck on any front.. i looked up my SU error and it looks like its because ibm never updated my model number in the system board when they replaced it (no way to fix it w/o a floppy drive i don't think)

Is it possible i screwed up the drivers installation? How would I remove them and start again?

Thanks guys

Regarding your missing model number just get the hardware maintenance disk from lenovo. With this disk you can easiliy restore your model number in bios. You can get it here: ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pccbbs/mo ... tm23us.exe.

Before running SU i would uninstall every driver and thinkpad application already installed. If this doesn't help maybe starting over with a fresh install would be a better aproach.

Download the files manually from this address:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... idate=true

It's not exactly the same machine. Many software is exactly the same.
Hotkey, power manager, keyboard customizer, et al, will work on any T4x

Thanks a lot for all of the help guys!

For the hardware maintenance disk.. is it a CD or a Floppy? Sadly, I have no floppy drive. Is it possible to get a CD version?

No it's not possible to burn this image to a cd. You need to have a floppy drive since the hmd only works when booted up from a floppy drive.
