Will any T4x screen work in my T40 ?

#1 Post by wearetheborg » Sat Jul 28, 2007 2:29 am

Will any T4x screen work in my T40 ? Its backlight is gone, so I'm thinking about replacing the entire top part. The original resolution was SXGA+
Can I only use SXGA+ ?
Does the FRU number need to match ?

Are you sure it is the backlight and not the inverter? If it is a 14" machine, you can use an XGA with no problem if you replace the whole assembly with cable and inverter. Note that many of the SXGA machines come with bluetooth. If you have a bluetooth modem, a replacement screen assembly probably won't have an antenna if it is XGA. If you have a 15" screen, I have seen reference to a problem when someone tried to put a UXGA screen onto a machine that didn't have one originally. If you want an XGA screen, I can give you some sort of trade-in on your old one. I think I even have one around here with a bluetooth antenna. Send me a private message

It had the reddish tint symptom. And if I turn the brightness all the way down, the screen comes on for a few minutes, all of which seemed to indicate a backlight problem.
I'm trying right now for SXGA+ - any T4x screen will work right ? And I dont need to replace the inverter if the screen lid assembly is from a T42 etc

That is why I asked 14" or 15". 14" XGA and SXGA+ use the same inverter. On 15", they use different ones.

They still use different cables. The wrong kind of panel will certainly not work unless you use the correct cable, so you are better off changing the whole assembly, unless you want to retain a bluetooth antenna (if you have one). In that case, you would need a bare panel and an inverter.

that there should have everything you need. You'd just have to open and remove your old one and then replace it with this one. You really want to get XGA tho? I know i'd hate it.

I dont want to get XGA, I just presented it as an example.
So the top lid assembly contains everything needed - inverter, cable etc right ? Nothing is in housed in the botttom part of the laptop ?

Everything you need is in the top assembly - the panel including the backlight , an inverter, the cable and a wireless antenna. The only option is a bluetooth antenna
