svchost.exe_HPSLPSVC failure on Vista 64 & T60P

#1 Post by jgrobertson » Sat Jul 28, 2007 11:21 am

Every few hours, this svchost.exe_HPSLPSVC, quits and I get a message. This appears to be an HP driver for sleep mode handling on some of their printers. Mine is an Officejet all in one with Ethernet connection to my home network.

Anyone have any clues of what to do about this? HP offers almost no support on the low end inkjet printers.

I find references on Google to other people having this problem but no solutions.

Running Vista 64 on T60P (2623DDU with Core 2 Duo).

HP is notorious for poor drivers. I have an HP ScanJet and the whole software suite for it fails now because of some XP updates. HP has said that they are too lazy, too incompetent and too ignorant to fix it. Vista changes? I much doubt it. HP build good printers, but their software is next to useless. ... JDH

Maybe there is a market for 3rd party drivers for HP printers?

I have a color laserjet 3600n at home and the drivers for that are fine. Since it is made by Canon, I am not sure if the drivers are canon or HP.

I don't know about third party drivers. I do know that lots of HP printers work dandy with XP built-in drivers. I also know my Scanner doesn't work with HP drivers but does work with Office 2003 scanning drivers. I also know that a brand new HP Laser Jet with a USB port and an ethernet port cannot be installed over a network unless you turf the HP drivers and work with the server drivers. I have done all the above - I'm not making any of it up.

I have been not happy with HP drivers either in recent years, since Agilent split off and they brought in that lady to run the place who ran it into the ground.

I really looked hard at Epson and Canon when I bought this officjet. I got it because of size and it has an Ethernet interface built in.

Their support is almost impossible to reach.

Maybe I have to sell this thing on ebay and get something else.
