Windows 7 (Vienna)

#1 Post by ryengineer » Sat Jul 28, 2007 6:20 pm

Microsoft is working on another project, an OS named Windows 7 codenamed "Vienna", expected to be released in 2009-2010. This information is new for me so I thought it could be worth sharing here.

You can find further details at:

I saw that. Microsoft goes berserk with operating systems. XP came out 1 year after Windows 2000, so while I used 2000 for a while, I never really saw much of it. Lots of people went from Windows 98 to Windows XP without stopping in between. Now we have Vista, it doesn't even work properly yet, and Microsoft is bringing out a new OS. They have not yet fixed all the bugs in XP yet. ... JDH

Well while most of us smarter users chose Windows 2000 instead of ME since it was rock solid. Win2k came out Feb 17 2000 and was a replacement for Windows NT 4.0 which came out in 1994 (i think). Windows XP came out October 2001 and was basically a replacement for 98 if you ask me. Sure Windows ME was out just 11 months prior but that was junk and more of a stop gap to get some money from people wanting to upgrade from 98. Then again Windows XP was the OS to combine "business user" and "home" user segments and was well overdue if you ask me!

Windows Seven as they are calling it now will prolly be on deck in 2010. That would ave been 3 years after the release of Vista but in all reality that's a long time. Anyone in business know you have to create in order to grow. If they had another OS out in 6yrs instead what money would they be making? They'd basically be spending more on support rather than "the next thing" OS.

yep, heck it was.

In my opinion w2k was the best of the windows family. It has good nt stability, better multimedia support and - whats most important, doesn't slow down after half a year of usage. If you're a developer and not the typical end-user w2k is the best choice. too bad the ms support for it has finished.
