Did Your T42 or T42P Ship?
D'oh
Yeah - get this:

9:29 P.M.

BILLING INFORMATION RECEIVED
3:22 P.M.
KOWLOON BAY, HK
PICKUP SCAN
2:56 P.M.
LOUISVILLE, KY, US
SPECIAL CUSTOMS DELAY FOR LIVE ENTRIES
</snip>
Cool - mine's in the US already! Not sure what that 'delay for live entries' stuff is (maybe I ordered a live chicken with my system - so hard to remember)
Also - my mistake - I ordered a 2379-DYU - too - not the DXU - no idea why I keep mixing them up...

Because X and Y are very similar looking letters, and they are next to each other in the alphabet.durjaya wrote:Also - my mistake - I ordered a 2379-DYU - too - not the DXU - no idea why I keep mixing them up...

PS: So you should get it tomorow, right?
Re: D'oh
My 2379-DYU is on the exact same shipment as yours! (I get the exact same UPS tracking data, too).durjaya wrote: Cool - mine's in the US already! Not sure what that 'delay for live entries' stuff is (maybe I ordered a live chicken with my system - so hard to remember)
Sorry "live entry" delay...I ordered the chicken as an accessory and assumed they would ship it separately.

Just be careful with those chickens guys! Remember the TP’s are coming from China, and they had some problems with chicken (or bird) flu recently. Let’s cross fingers that these TP’s are shipped with chicken flu patch already installed.

Now mine is in a batch of 32, all labelled "Exception" for status. Does that meas "Let's make an exception and send these along as soon as possible" or "all the rest in the batch were fine, but these are the exceptions that will have to sit here until Friday next week"?
I guess we'll see.

Yeah, I just got home...and I'm typing this post on my spankin' new T42. It's sweet, great keyboard, everything. I got the 2378-FVU, the 14.1" 9600 model, the screen size is perfect for me. The only thing I don't like is that the Fn and Control keys are switched around, I keep pressing Fn instead of Control. Now I'm trying to get that recovery partition back...I got a 40gb drive, and there's about 28gb available...that's not acceptable for me...
Otherwise, sweet machine.

First post from the new T-Pad!
It's bigger than I expected - but not bad big. I was a little concerned initially but think I'm over that now.
The Flexview Screen is really, really nice. Well worth the $$ I think.
I'll try some games later and see how it performs for me.
In the process of loading stacks of software on it now...

Got my new T42p today, too!
It is a 2379-DYU: 15" UXGA with FireGL, and I am happy to report that I have no stuck pixels. Maybe the secret is to get the UXGA screen and not the 15" SXGA+ one. Or maybe the single stuck pixel on mine is so small I can't see it anyway.
The screen is so awesome! Later tonight I will try installing some games on it to see how the slow response time looks. Right now, I am burning the recovery CDs in preparation to resize the NTFS partition, blow away the IBM_SERVICE partition, and install RH Enterprise Linux.
Honestly, I was pleasantly surprised at the size and weight of the unit. It really is not that much bulkier or heavier than the T40s and T41s I have seen. A collegue of mine has a T40, so we will do a side-by-side comparison tomorrow. However, given the awesome screen, I have to say that the slightly extra bulk is well worth it!

Oh I'm so glad all you guys are gettng T42s. Means I'm got a great price on a T40.
Somehow I feel I am playing catch up
But hey since October last year I have been through (and again sold where marked)
- Thinkpad 560 SOLD
- Thinkpad 765L SOLD
- Thinkpad 570 SOLD
- Thinkpad 570E SOLD
- Thinkpad T21 SOLD
- Thinkpad T23 (Due to be sold, sniff)
- Thinkpad 560 SOLD (This was my solid state project till I got...)
- Thinkpad 560X - Solid State
- Thinkpad 560X SOLD (used best parts of two 560Xs and sold the remnants)
- Thinkpad 560Z - server
- Thinkpad T40 (Due to be paid for)
There is no way I shall be affording a T41/42 for sometime. If I find my t40 lacking, I'm gonna need my head checked
