frustrated now after sending T60 to easyserv..,(its fixed)
yea, i am extremely frustrated now.
I just search "EasyServ" on this forum and read countless posts complaining the poor service of IBM EasyServ at Solectron......
Man, I should take some pics before I sent to them..(I forgot ). It looks like they always find some excuse to tell you your laptop is not covered by IBM warranty because it is liquid spilled,or accidently break by end user.
Anyone has a good experience with them? or bad ?
Is there any way to deal with their liquid-spill or other excuses which they are trying to charge you unreasonable?
Peace...
Ya!!laptop got fixed in 3 days, and I am really happy with it now

I've had a few bad experiences and many, many, many good experiences.
Usually, I've gotten things fixed first time. Sometimes second time. One time FIFTH time, but eventually fixed perfectly.
If you have the standard warranty, liquid spills are not included. If you have ThinkPad Protection, liquid spills are covered.
Sometimes, even without ThinkPad Protection, they will repair liquid spills under warranty, but usually not.
Forums typically draw out the problems, as they should, but frequency of complaints on forums don't necesssarily fairly represent frequency of good and bad outcomes.

Call them and ask what they fixed? If you hang around forums such as this you will learn that most folks come here to complain about one problem or another. The people with no problems rarely stop by to give a good word for EasyServ. You also learn that the entire cross section of folks who do not have problems is much larger than those who come here to complain. The comparison would be astronomical. I wouldn't be surprised to see a number like 1000 to 1. 1000 delighted with the service for every one with problems. The problem is all those 1's come here and folks like yourself get the impression that the PC repair world is going to hell in a hand basket

yea, you hit the right point, and maybe I think too much about it, *pessimism*...
Thinkpad is still a good design. Right now, I have told 5 ppl to get Thinkpad instead of others, and all of them have ordered Thinkpad R,T & Z series.
Personally, I love my T42 much more than T60 coz T42 is a really quiet machine, and T60...you know, fan *Whirr*. Right now I am looking forward to get either X61 or T61 for my backup laptop coz I really cant live without computer....

ronan_zj,
After personally sending 500+ (yes, over five hundred) laptops to Ez Serv for repair I can say that I trust their service. They have never lost a laptop or damaged one.
Just keep in mind that the person working on your laptop is human (mistakes happen) and probably not a tier 3 systems engineer.
Out of the 500+ laptops only 1 was damaged in the shipment (LCD was cracked) back to me. I called Ez Serv and opened a case. They took the laptop back and replaced the LCD at no charge.
Granted some laptops (less than 20) that were fixed had to be sent back to them because the laptop came back with a different problem. Such as the laptop was sent in for a bad NIC that required a system board replacement and the system board that they used had a bad USB port or PCMCIA slot.
I think that if they run into a laptop that has "questionable" damage, they flag it as non-warranty and try to make the owner pay for the rapairs. By questionable damage I mean any traces of green corrison on copper components or cracked internal parts.

I would say that this is incorrect. I believe that they err on the side of caution. Not everyone in this world is honest enough to admit that they damaged their laptop (spill, drop, static, lightning, etc) and IBM / Lenovo is just trying to protect themselves from fixing damage that is not covered under waranty and possibly caued by misuse.ronan_zj wrote: It looks like they always find some excuse to tell you your laptop is not covered by IBM warranty because it is liquid spilled,or accidently break by end user.

Request that they send you pictures of the damage. Once you get the laptop back, take it apart and verify what they said was damaged. Ez Serv usually marks the damaged area with red color pointers. Look for these and see if the area is damaged. If you disagree with their findings, call them back and complain or clean up the effected area with alcohol wipes, then send the laptop back to them.ronan_zj wrote: Is there any way to deal with their liquid-spill or other excuses which they are trying to charge you unreasonable?

wow!
I am impressed. I just got my laptop back from EZServe, and all problems are fixed.(No more nosie from LCD, this problem has been happened on my machine for 8 months, and they also changed the new Fan, I think, coz no noise from fan either). it looks no problem now, but i will open the laptop to check the internal part.
Thank you guys, and thank IBM EZserve.

lol.acasto wrote:I'm glad to hear a good story about EasyServ. Would it be possible to change the thread title so when someone searches for 'easyserv' the results wont appear as ominous at first glance. Having a few good stories around might help calm the nerves of some new users
I found a fatal mistake of their service on the Fan. When I got my laptop, I turn it on and use tpfancontrol to check the GPU temp, and I noticed my GPU temp. was alway at 75C when the machine was idle. Thus, I opened the machine and took out the fan again. Guess what did I find? The service ppl forgot to take off the adhesive tape from the Gel, so it insulates entire VGA chip. Luckily, I did find the mistake and save my laptop. Anyways, they only spent a day to fix my laptop and shipped back to me, so it is still a good service.
Wow... that was quite a mistake, good thing you caught it.ronan_zj wrote: lol.

I was scared to death a couple weeks ago I was going to have to send mine in. A coworker of mine left a patch cable plugged up to a PoE injector on the desk and I plugged it into my Thinkpad. A few seconds later something started smelling like it was burning, and I realized what I did. The smell was coming from the laptop, but it works and everything checks out, I even took it apart and looked it over and cleaned everything. Made me happy I purchased a 3 year protection plan though.

Couldn't tell, but haven't had any problems. I've only had it for about eight months, so I still have a while on the warranty/protection if it acts up later. I'm just guessing maybe something didn't quite burn, but just got hot. I just hope it didn't hurt it, but rather decreased the lifespan, so with my luck as soon as the warranty is up it will start acting up. Oh well, buy then I'll probably want to get the T1000 with integrated plasma cannon.ronan_zj wrote: so, which part was burnt?
Yeah, 'tis really a shame that 802.3af isn't a more widely-used PoE solution, then accidents like this could be avoided. I guess it is simply cheaper to build so-called "passive" PoE devices.acasto wrote:A coworker of mine left a patch cable plugged up to a PoE injector on the desk and I plugged it into my Thinkpad.
