R51, XP Pro SP2
Just turned it on and boot took forever. When I finally got the task manager open, I found that TVTSCHED was consuming 100% of CPU. Killing it brought the system abruptly back to normal.
The file resides in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Lenovo\Scheduler
I've been using the machine for years, although I did just install Power Management Driver 1.43, Hotkey Features Setup 2.03.0705 and Access Connections 4.42 a few days ago.

I have been running Access Connections 4.42 since it came out with no problems; similarly with Power Management 1.43. I am still using the prior version of Hotkey. I don't have any issue with TVTSCHED.
There is a setting in AC about logging on automatically. I always uncheck this. Check that.

I see this setting in WiFi properties as "use this profile to connect during Windows logon". I keep that unchecked. I don't see the setting for Wired connections. Also, make sure every profile disables the radio if it is not being used.
It is worth your while (I mean everyone) to look at each and every setting of Access Connections to make sure you are not applying unwanted things globally. ... JDH

I don't have AC set to auto logon to Windows, although it does start automatically and connect to my wireless AP at startup. It's always been set to do that and never caused problems. In fact, when I had the problem with the runaway TVTSCHED, the system was so screwed up that AC didn't appear to start and I didn't get connected to the network.jdhurst wrote:I see this setting in WiFi properties as "use this profile to connect during Windows logon". I found that TVTSCHED is a service (TVT Scheduler) and disabled it in the service controller. Subsequent re-boots went normally.
Still, I'd really like to know just what "TVT Scheduler" is and what it's supposed to be scheduling.

seems like this little program is used to schedule tasks for thinkVantage. if you don't want thinkvantage to update anything automatically than you can disable it. for me windows update is enough. I don't want another update running on my system so tvtschedule.exe is out! i don't know why it was causing you truble thou. Last time my computer died after windows update so I guess things happen.
Thanks for the info. I reported not having it on my T41 (and I don't), but I forgot to check my NetVista A30. I have System Update running on my desktop and TVTSCHED is there and running. In fact, it comes up about once a month and says nothing new (Duh!). But otherwise it is not chewing up any resources and not causing boot problems. ... JDH

Suddenly I have had the same problem with TVTSCHED and the Computer absorbed 100% of CPU at startup time. That means Windows doesn't start and I have to bring up the task scheduler after a while (about 15 minutes later!) to cancel TVTSCHED. Now I have disabled the service (MSCONFIG.EXE) and the problem is gone.
I never had this problem before and didn't install any product. But suddenly TVTSCHED caused the problem at startup.
So watch out when your PC doesn't startup ...

This happened to me out of the blue yesterday. Process explorer had it set to auto, so I set it to manual and all was as it should be.aschb wrote:Suddenly I have had the same problem with TVTSCHED and the Computer absorbed 100% of CPU at startup time.

As posted before, TVTSCHED stand for ThinkVantage Scheduler. It's used for several scheduled task. It's not related to Access Connections; it belongs to Client Security Solution.
Mine eat only 6mb. Take note that sometimes some services take a lot of resources because incompatibilities, conflicts between versions and so on. Access Connections have large history in this matter.

I disabled the Service with MSCONFIG.EXE and the problem is gone. In addition I deleted some additional TVT... services at the same time.
But now R+R 3.1 does not start anymore. Just nothing happen.
All disabled services do not appear anymore in the list.
How to get them back in MSCONFIG.EXE and restore some of them?

First of ALL never use MSCONFIG.EXE for services. You will accidently disable Windwos critical services and your computer won't boot next time. To do this use SERVICES.MSC - it will not let you disable critical services.aschb wrote:I disabled the Service with MSCONFIG.EXE and the problem is gone. 2 if you want to fix your problem you need to reinstall R&R. Go to C -> IMBTOOLS -> APPS and look for R&R set up files. then resinall it.
3 The additional TVT services that you deleted were also used for Active Protection, System Update, Scheduling, and as you just figured out Rescure and Recovery.
4 Never disable services without knowing what they do.

If you want to learn a little bit more about services here is the site:

And here is the configuration that works for me:
http://mywebpages.comcast.net/SupportCD/SecureXP.html - scroll down to Step 7 services. remeber disable services at your own risk.

Just adding one more statistic to the tvtsched.exe bad actor story ; it consumes 100% on t42.
I've disabled "tvt scheduler" in the Windows Services MMC control panel.

I don't understand where all those tvt processes come from. I've uninstalled almost every Thinkpad app and have switched off the "auto update" feature on System Update but still I have tvtsched.exe and tvt_reg_monitor.exe running.

Just found out it's RnR that has most of these processes running, despite the fact that I have switched off the auto backup feature. How annoying. I guess I'll have to uninstall RnR and just use the WinXp shadow volume copy feature.
One process that I'm not sure about is scheduler_proxy.exe, which is run from the Common Files\Lenovo\Scheduler folder. Anyone know what that is linked to?

Same problem here
The same thing happened to me on a T41 that is basically left turned on 24x7. It was two weeks before I finally figured out what the problem was and disabled tvtsched.exe, so I think it is safe to say that whatever the cause is a) started a couple weeks ago and b) will *not* go away by itself.
Has anyone tried to diagnose this by going through IBM tech-support channels?

tvtsched.exe
I've also had horrendous problems with tvtsched.exe. I thought I must be infected with a virus or malware, and went through all the exhaustive steps to clean them, because when I ran Task Manager, the performance window only showed the processes which show up in the green not in red.
I first got the problem when I was away from home and had to use a dialup modem. While I was away, I also installed MS Outlook, and I presumed that this must be the cause. When I uninstalled it and cleaned the registry, the 100% CPU problem went away.
A month later I had to use dialup again. This time the 100% CPU usage didn't fall after I cleaned the registry, and I spent 2 days trying to get rid of nonexistent malware.
Eventually I stumbled across Process Explorer, available from
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysint ... lorer.mspx
This identified tvtsched.exe as the culprit, and I disabled it. Relief at last!
I haven't missed it at all. What does it actually do?

all of a sudden
So, for me, all of a sudden it seemed that the tvtscheduler.exe was killing my boot up.
I don't have anything set to auto update, neither windows nor thinkvantage applications, the only thing that auto updates is my AVG virus installation.
And yet, I was having this issue where at bootup, I had NO networking, the stuff was in the task manager, but not loading, AND I had a huge delay and the tvtsched.exe was using 97 of the cpu at bootup. I couldn't even get the task manager open.
so, I have disabled it in services, hopefully, that will work.
My question is this: How did it all of a sudden start up to running? where did it come from, I had never seen it before, was it SCHEDULED to trigger and begin at some pont?

It seems to me the service activates itself after some times and again you have to disable the service (now I know how to fix it...)

My T43 xp-home was frozen on tvtsched.exe this morning as well.
100% CPU !!
After I stop that process, I tried to update my thinkvantage system update. But failed. My version is 3, and newest one is 3.10.
I download system update directly from LENOVO, and installed it.
Now everything starts rocking again.
Cheers~~

this makes me wonder why lenovo releases so many buggy apps.... why not realease fewer but of much better quality aplications. i don't need useless messenger, away manager and other crappy apps that i bet 90% of people don't use.cail wrote:My T43 xp-home was frozen on tvtsched.exe this morning as well.

I remember when the thinkvantage button stopped working, well the button itself worked the the application would pop up for half a second then die. Gave me quite a few laughs that the software they release can be so buggy.

TVTSCHED.EXE taking 100% CPU
Another option is to disable the program by renaming the file, such as TVTsched.exe.DISABLED. I also experienced the problem on Jan 1 on a Lenovo ThinkCentre A60 desktop. It's not just a Thinkpad problem.

same slowness noticed
we have noticed this on all kinds of thinkpads, t41,t42,t43. Seems that some update from either lenovo or microsoft started this issue. when it finally comes up and you kill the process we have deleted system updated and then rebooted and reinstalled it and that seemed to fix the issue, not sure why and its very disturbing because while it is so slow you can't even tell if there is a system problem. noticed that as you try and sign into windows all you get is a blank blue desktop for a very long time >30 min and if u are patient and keep hitting the cntrl alt delete to get the task mgr and kill the process you finally have a pc you can use.
anyone else try this fix and it worked? wonder what changed because it works then stops abruptly..

Re: all of a sudden
Had this issue occur all of a sudden sometime after June / July 2008. For most of the time I did not even know what the real issue was because I was left waiting for the bloody thing to startup and it just wouldnt.nikemen wrote:So, for me, all of a sudden it seemed that the tvtscheduler.exe was killing my boot up.

Another thing that happened simultaneously is that my TP stopped identifying my WiFi 2200 Card as a WiFi card in Access Connections. It shows in Device Manager though.
I am going to try to debug it with the Windows Wireless Zero Config.
