Can't install R+R 4.1
Can't install R+R 4.1
I downloaded the full version of R+R 4.1, which is
425'637 KB large (and uninstalled version 3.1 first)
If i start the downloaded file z501_setupm314c.exe a short window is displayed for less than a 1/4 second (I assume to extract the file) but nothing happen.
No error code. The opened window (DOS) is closed.
I have tested the install on 2 different PC's. Same result.
Is the file too large to extract? Memory and diskspace is sufficient ( 2 GB ram and 250 GB disk)
Operating System: XP (latest updates installed)

Are you installing it on T43p? I am asking this because Rescue and Recovery version 4.x only supports systems starting from Thinkpad T43/p.
Secondly, version 4.x can only upgrade version 3.1. (merely speaking about your thinkpad). You need to install 3.1 again and then upgrade from there.
Thirdly, lenovo lists R n R 4.1 (for all languages) size as 437MB as opposed to 415.6MB that you mentioned, I suggest you install it again. Here is the link.
Lastly make sure your Windows Regional language is same as the language you choose during R n R installation.

I run a T43P.
"Rescue and Recovery 4.x full install file including all supported languages (437 MB)" says the description.
I assume I don't need the previous version 3.1 when installing the full size version of 4.1 in this case?
My download size reads as 425'637 KB (around 437 MB).
My regional language is German. The full version should support all languages (I don't care if English or German language anyway)

Why not re-install 3.1 and then just use the 4.1 upgrade exe (it's only about 67Mb).
Two days ago I used the 4.1 upgrade route and it worked perfectly, albeit from 4.0 rather than 3.1.
Do not take too much notice of the supported machines list. I've used 4.0 and 4.1 on a my T30 (which is not listed as supported) and it's fine. In this instance, when a machine is not shown in the list it just means the vendor hasn't tested the software with that hardware and you cannot raise problems related to that configuration. It does NOT indicate it will not work.

Thx. Initially I did an upgrade from 3.1 to 4.1 with the 67MB upgrade file. After a while (during installation) it just stopped and after 20 minutes I canceled the install. So I decided to remove 3.1 and install the full package of 4.1.
But this package not even writes the data from the downloaded file to "ibmtools, drivers" where the 3.1 version is still available.
Since I removed 3.1 the re-install of 3.1 again cancels due to "newer version already on your system, do not install the older version 3.1"
I believe the downloaded file (full version) is corrupt or something wrong and hope someone else does a full install and reports back the success or the same problem as I have encountered.

I don't believe in upgrades, so I always uninstall and then proceed with the new version installation.
For RnR I download the Large Enterprise version which is, oddly enough, much smaller than the full "consumer" version.
Here, follow the 4 steps to the letter, all files to the same directory, and you'll be fine:

It tells me I cant install 4.1. I've tried everything to uninstall 3.1. Nothing I do will allow me to install RnR. Any suggestions?

Would you mind to comment on your thinkpad?rfmanning wrote:It tells me I cant install 4.1. I've tried everything to uninstall 3.1. Nothing I do will allow me to install RnR. Any suggestions?
