*** Sold for $450 plus actual shipping (reduced from $500, $475...) ***

I have an mint, fast, loaded R50 available, but I'm not sure what it's worth.

This model is one notch below an R50p and it's equivalent to an ATI 9000 video chipset T41 (even uses the same BIOS and EC) with some upgrades, namely a 15" IPS FlexView SXGA+ LCD and FireWire.

When I received the unit it was still under warranty (it expired in June) and it had some issues with the systemboard and LCD. To make a very long story short, after three trips to IBM repair, it was fully corrected by a top technician. They replaced much more than necessary to try to make up for the wasted trips. They succeeded!

They replaced the systemboard and FlexView LCD plus they replaced the LCD top cover, the LCD bezel, the keyboard, and the keyboard bezel. They replaced all the plastics except the base cover, which is in perfect condition.

So, I have an R50 that looks (almost is) brand new and works perfectly. It's mint, the only place with even a scratch is the very bottom of the unit. It's loaded. It runs perfectly with restore partition in tact. What's it worth? Offers?

(This isn't the one in my signature, that's another one!)

I'll pretty much go with pianowizard and say no less than $500 no more than $575.

Since there are a lot of machine currently for sale at very good prices, I'll use the low end estimate, $500.

Thanks for the input guys. It's a special laptop, I use the same model now for my own machine and I really like the SXGA+ in 15".

You've got it, big pix -> http://www.nikkoaudio.com/pix/1836-3SU/

It looks like a new machine. I like this model so much I'm selling my T41p and using one as my main rig. The 15" SXGA+ FlexView is addictive.

A new R61i
$522.75 is the cheapest with EPP discount. Throw in FatCash and you're right over $500.

Your assistance with helping me sell this is much appreciated!

I'm not sure how people are getting these EPP's, I certainly do not, but either way, my R50 with Bluetooth and one of IBM's finest high resolution displays certainly does rival that R61i. It is especially comforting to know that my R50 was initially configured so well that the CPU is the exact same clock speed as this "new" R61i.

Yes it is surprising that I can actually offer this mint condition, fully equipped R50 for less than a new, basic R61i. That's just something I'm willing to do for this community.

Thanks again for your support with pointing out the value here and I'm sorry that I am not able to ship internationally.

Even if we completely disregard the fact that the machine is downright drop-dead-gorgeous, this is still (and will be for at least a while) as cheap as a combination of Pentium M and FlexView will come from a very trustworthy seller and forum member....

I honestly feel that Mods and Admins should point out, at least occasionaly, that thread-crapping is NOT a welcomed contribution to the forum...I just love reading posts from people who almost never buy or sell anything around here, but always have a negative comment regarding the price...and, BTW, the R61i in question DOES NOT have a FlexView screen, so any comparison is absolutely un-called for...it's a mere WXGA!

Wake up, smell the coffee and follow your eBay auctions, guys and gals...this place is NOT meant to be bargain basement, or a yard sale....but a meeting point for those amongst us wanting to buy or sell top-of-the-line machines, at least for the most part....

Only $450 plus postage now! I am tempted to buy this, swap out the SXGA+ screen with an extra UXGA FlexView that I have, and sell the unit for $550 and the SXGA+ screen for $100. Do you guys think that's possible?

I was watching your price drop on the UXGA LCD and thinking it really would couple nicely with this machine or the identical one that I use now as my main rig.

I'm actually surprised this one hasn't sold yet, so I can't say what an upgraded one will fetch, but I'm pretty sure you'll get $100 for the SXGA+ LCD.

It seems that most people either don't like the R-series much or aren't educated about their excellent value and likeness to the T-series.

The T series has the obvious advantage of being lighter. But for 15.0" models, even the T series is too heavy to be considered portable and serves mainly as a desktop replacement anyway. In this case, I think it makes more sense to get an R series and get more bang for the buck. On the other hand, for 14.1" models, the T series is the way to go.

I am still waiting for AlphaKilo's semi-defective 15.0" T42 to arrive. I am hoping to fix it, mount my UXGA screen on it and sell it. But if that doesn't work out, I'll buy this nice R50 from you. So, please don't put it on eBay too soon!

The R-series is very underrated IMO. I cant beleive this machine is still here.

PW, in case you are selling the defective T42, I might be interested (with or without the UXGA). Someone I know is looking for a parts T4x and this might be very handy. Contact me incase you are selling it!
