"SMART Short Test- failed"

#1 Post by fozzy40 » Sat Aug 04, 2007 12:54 pm

I ran PC Doctor 5 for Windows on my IBM T43 and I got this "SMART Short Test- failed" error message. Does anyone know what this means?

Thank you.

SMART refers to the HDD. Get a copy of drive fitness test (DFT) and run the full test.

I tried running the Hitachi Drive Fitness test but I don't have an floppy A drive so I can't set it up. Any suggestions?

Welcome to thinkpads.com!

The Hitachi web site where you can download DFT also has a version that can be burned on a CD:

http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/d ... 09_b00.iso

You will of course need a CD burner and a program which writes .ISO formatted files correctly.
