Possible to reset the chip on IBM battery?

#1 Post by mordoch » Sun Oct 24, 2004 4:24 pm

Hi,
since I've been caught by the typical IBM600-battery-problem (collapsing at about 70%) I started to look for some informations about that. Somewhere I read, that there needn't be a problem with the cells, but only with the chip!
I found an ebay-auction (german):
http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie ... RK:MEWA:IT

It says that i can buy spare-cells an if I buy more than 4 cells, I'll get an Floppy with a "Calibrationtool" on it. That would be needed to reset the micro-controller.

Does anyone know something more about that "tool"? I allready googled a lot and searched on ibm website ...

Thanks in advance

Well, i called several (german) hotlines today. But none of them knew anything about a tool I described to them.... :?

So if anyone has some better news: let us know

Greeting from Germany ;)

2 of the 6 cells in my 600 battery were bad. I didn't know anything about a chip, so threw that part away. I still have 4 good cells sitting in a drawer. If anyone wants them for experimentation, etc. purposes, or to rebuild their battery pack, they're yours...just pay for my shipping.
IM me if interested with your name, address. I'll take PayPal for shipping cost. This cost would depend on if you are in the U.S. or otherwise. Since these are Lithium, I would hope that USPS would let me send by US Mail, as that's what I would prefer.

Hi
thank you for your offer.
Could you give me/us more info about the shipping costs?
But i think, that shipping to germany would be too expensive...

thx for the offer @ MadeInJapan

however i doubt that any postal office will allow shipping of LI-ion-batteries, UPS and others do owever ship without asking ( or you just say nothing *g*).

i think the shipping to germany would be 10-20 bucks ... so way to much for 4 batteries. eh lol, for the fun i just looked it up what UPS would take, the cheapest is 82 bucks  thats way to much

USPS takes 15.50 if sent as Airmail Parcel Post, so still to much....
