Hello.
I'm upset with a machine here, a T42...
I know all the passwords: Power-on password, Hard Drive (User+Master) and everything related.
Power-On, HD (User), and Windows is the same and all work with fingerprinter. I want to change all password. The machine was formatted.
Now, When I try to enter in BIOS it ask me for power on password and enter to BIOS in user mode. Some gray letters says something about my limited access and "Ask your supervisor". I have the supervisor password, it don't prompt me for supervisor password because automatically acept user password entered at power-on and don't accept supervisor password there (HD-Master).
So, I'm asking: What's the way for the bios to ask me for the supervisor password?
**I'm not asking to by-pass or crack the passoword. I want enter the prompt. **
Thanks.

Re: Prompt for BIOS/Hard Drive Password in T42
I believe that for the T4x systems you press the F1 key when the system is powered up. If that doesn't prompt you for the supervisor password or allow you to enter the BIOS setup screen, then try the blue Access IBM key.Melvyn wrote:So, I'm asking: What's the way for the bios to ask me for the supervisor password?
If you remove the CMOS (backup) battery that will get rid of the power-on password. If you also have a supervisor password enabled, then the next time the system is powered on, it should prompt you to enter the supervisor password (because the date and time was lost).

Re: Prompt for BIOS/Hard Drive Password in T42
Solved.
Both password can be entered in the same prompt.
Supervisor Passoword was set using User Password plus some other letters and numbers, like for example:
User Password: thinkpads21 => 11 characters
Supervisor Password: thinkpads21forum => 16 characters
In fact, that machine wasn't set to use passphrase, so passwords were cuts.
Trying to enter the full word for user password was cut at character 9.
Then, supervisor password was only 7 characters and must be entered as thinkpads21 and thinkpads21forum, it was cut and never recognized the supervisor pass.
Thanks a lot.
Because I was entering thinkpads21 and
