T43 users - We need you to test a new computer game!

#1 Post by amaneri » Sat Aug 04, 2007 8:20 pm

Hi Guys!

My name is Andrew Maneri. My teammates and I at the DigiPen Institute of Technology have been working on a new PC game, a rhythm/arcade-shooter hybrid called Synaesthete. You can view the website here: http://www.synaesthetegame.com

Anyways, we have entered the game in the Intel Game Demo contest (http://softwarecommunity.intel.com/gamecontest/) and have become a finalist. For the mobile games category, they are going to test the entries on a ThinkPad T43 with the mobility x300 onboard video. As we do not have this laptop (and it isn't really available in retail channels anymore), we need testers to make sure the game runs, and runs well.

This is where you guys come in! Anyone with a T43 (with x300 mobility onboard video) is encouraged to test our game and give feedback. We really appreciate the help you are providing and you'll get a spot in the credits for your assistance.

Instructions:

Download the special test-version here:
https://typo3.digipen.edu/fileadmin/syn ... ad_T43.exe

Install, play, and have fun!
You are encouraged to play through the tutorial to learn the game mechanics.
Leave us feedback:
What we want to know about
1. Does it run? (We sure hope so!)

2. The frame rate: In the upper-left corner of the screen is a frame counter. We are interested in where it tends to stay on your machine. There a few scenarios we would like to know about: Running the game at your laptop's native resolution, running at 800 x 600, and when running on battery power.

3. The audio: Does is stay in sync? Does it start to get jumbled and skip around?

4. Keyboard bus issues. Did you have any problems when pressing multiple keys at once? This would include delayed key reaction, keyblock, etc.

5. Any other feedback you have

You can send feedback to feedback@synaesthetegame.com - or - just leave a post here. We'll be checking both regularly.

Again, thanks for your help and time. All feedback is important!

Andy

Well, I don't know of how much help I will be, but I have a T43p laptop that I tried the game on and it ran pretty well. I DID NOT USE the above test version, I used the latest build off your website., sorry.

Few things I noticed:

- Frame rate is either sluggish or key response is delayed. I cou;dn't tell.
- Does the game truly run at 1400x1050 as I selected? It seemed a bit large.
- Sound and music were on track.
- One gripe I had about the tracker system was that it would make it more fun in the game if you had it like DDR style where hitting the notes made a distinguishable sound, so playing on key would be easier and more enjoyable.

I didn't spend too much time with the game, just played for about 15 mins between some work I had to do. NICE JOB on the overall feel and design!

Hopefully some Intel based T43 people will be able to report their findings here.

Thanks for testing! Your graphics adapter isn't quite the same as the target system (a few more shader and pixel pipes) but it's pretty close.

The game does indeed run at the resolutions you specify, the GUI elements are stretched to be the same size at any resolution. If the frame rate is feeling off, try a lower resolution and see if that helps (the visual appearance doesn't change all too much with this style of game when lowering the resolution).

Anyways, I'm glad you enjoyed it, and thanks again!

I had a game, it's pretty fun, would make an excellent console game, but works really well on pc, the game would be huge in Japan and the States. I finished the special test version on my third or fourth try - is there a longer version?

Anyway on my thinkpad at 1600x1200 it ran at a constant rate of around 25 fps (never dropped below 23), while at 800x600 it ran at 90-100fps

Thanks again guys, the information has been very helpful.
If you want your actual names to be in the credits, just message/email/get them to me somehow, otherwise, we'll just use your forum usernames.

Thanks,
Andy
