Intel Speedstep Applet

#1 Post by fefrie » Sat Aug 04, 2007 10:45 pm

After installing the Mobile meter a couple of months back to diagnose heat issues with the cpu, I discovered that the processor would run at 733 or 1.13ghz frequencies. If I started the t23 using the power cable, it would run at 1.13, and if I started it on the battery, it would run at 733.

I run my t23 with the minimum amount of necessary drivers, and I hadn't installed the intel speedstep applet for fear of it running with the battery meter. I hate tons of stuff in the sys tray.

Anyways, the speedstep applet is good. I like it.

My question is that when running on battery, it's set on max battery performance.

However when running on the power plug, what would you recommend to set it on: max performance or Automatic? Is there any lag or 'wear' on the processor if it switches between frequencies?

Stupid question I know......

Personally, I run mine at max. If it gives you heat issues you should run it on auto. As for processor wear, there is nothing to worry about. Mostly the choice really depends on how you use the computer. If you use it harshly on power use full, but if you don't do a lot and don't mind it running slower you may want to use automatic. Also, that is far from a stupid question. I rode about twenty miles to this guy's house to show him how to select his user name from a drop down to avoid having to sign onto AOL as a guest.

Hope this helps!
