T-23 Crashed

#1 Post by t-rex » Sat Aug 04, 2007 11:33 pm

T-23 Crashed , XP pro

the desktop icons all flashed off and then came back on looking like a program icon, or one like you have added a program but not rebooted. now the only thing that runs is explorer. all others get the windows cannot open this file ie: macafee.ink
thinking i might be infected i yanked the HD cabled it to the desktop and scanned it w\macafee all it found was a tracking cookie. then i ran check disc though safe mode command prompt
no trouble found. next i tried sfc/scannow but it said the rpc server had a problem, i looked at services.msc and the top one was running.
i have already saved the documents folder in case it fails completly
or i reload it. have not tried a repair install yet as it usally does not fix anything. any ideas before i reload the os?
thanks in advance

The tracking cookie did not do this, they are usually almost harmless. You have probably 20 more on your system already. It sounds like the system has had something go corrupted. Try a repair install and then run a memory checker and a disk checker to make sure your memory and hard drive are not an issue.
