t42 15"flexview came but getting stuck pixels and looks
I just got a t42 23733XU (1.7 GhZ, 512Mb, 15" SVGA) etc. The screen looks great and I really like the notebook but I've gotten 2 stuck pixels so far. Whenever I log out and log back in they become unstuck but I'm worried if this is a sign of worse things to come.
It was kind of strange but when I took the t42 out of the box it looked used. There was no paper strip on the battery and a lot of the bags with the cords were ripped open. I also found 2 sets of mac address stickers with 1 set already stuck on the bottom of the notebook. There is also some faint marks on the top of the cover. I'm thinking somebody else may have returned this one perhaps due to the stuck pixels.
I'm just wondering if anybody else has gotten a t42 that looked like it was already used. I may send this back for a replacement but am not sure if it's worth the cost of shipping. I'd appreciate any advice.

Cords ripped open is no good, but some cords don't come in plastic bags, they're just twist-tied.stanjj wrote:I just got a t42 23733XU (1.7 GhZ, 512Mb, 15" SVGA) etc. The screen looks great and I really like the notebook but I've gotten 2 stuck pixels so far. None of my new-from-IBM thinkpads had paper strips across the battery.
The mac addresses for your NIC and wifi card are supposed to come pre-attached to the bottom of your laptop (there are two stickers each, the other is in a small plastic bag).
Also, are your "stuck pixels" pure white, and only occasionally show up every now and then in different places? If so, does clicking the middle mouse button (blue ultranav button) make them go away? If so, then they're not really stuck pixels, just some ultranav bug that we all seem to get.

Yeah, the pixels are white and show up in different places. I tried hitting the blue button and that makes them go away. Do you know why that happens and does it happen with all flexview screens?
Call me a flip-flopper but maybe I will just hold on to this one. I can live with a few scuffs on the cover.

Yeah, those white pixels fooled me too, until someone here told me what they really werestanjj wrote:Yeah, the pixels are white and show up in different places. I tried hitting the blue button and that makes them go away. Do you know why that happens and does it happen with all flexview screens?

They're just the result of some apparent bug with the mouse (ultranav) driver. It has nothing to do with the screen and AFAIK it should happen on all T42s, maybe all IBMs that use the same driver. Thankfully it's not a hardware problem, right?
Too bad about the cover scratches - the rubberized finish is just so easy to scratch...

Wow, I can't tell you how helpful you just were to me. I was getting upset because I kept getting stuck white pixels in random places that would go away and then come back, almost never in the same spot. I have been taking screenshots to document them and was going to send my thinkpad back because it seemed like there were atleast 8 or 9 different places I had gotten them. I will see if the middle button clears it up next time it happens!Kenn wrote:Also, are your "stuck pixels" pure white, and only occasionally show up every now and then in different places?
