General Opinion Question on Hard drives

#1 Post by ChefJohn » Tue Aug 07, 2007 6:55 am

I have read horror stories on various makes of Hard drives for notebooks.

SO what is the collective wisdom as to hard drives in the sub 100 Gb range that would be recomended?

Perhaps in the 20 -40 X,Y but never Z
40 - 60 A, b or C
60 - 100 Not H or I

Any sweet spots?
Any that you can't believe how good a deal is?

Thanks for any input

Sorry I should have added Thinkpad 600 class (I have an E souped up with a P3 500 and a couple of 600's).

I recommend just about any Hitachi drive. As I have stated in the past, there have been several threads on here regarding issues with Seagate drives, especially in T30's.

What system are you looking at getting a hard drive for?

You've listened to too many horror stories.

They are all mostly fine, and chances are whatever you get - it won't fail.

In recent Thinkpads, the T43 and R52 create lots of problem with hard drives, because of a SATA/PATA bridge used inside, which has loads of compatibility problems.
