14.1 SXGA+ T61p Available

#1 Post by jlachesk » Wed Aug 08, 2007 11:14 am

Just sharing the news.

http://tinyurl.com/2y7y7k

Interesting to note that the 570M is only available in the 128mb version (really the only reason I didnt immediately cancel my 15.4" WS order, but we'll see).

Also appears to be the same model as the one available via the "secret link" that has been circulating around these forums for a while now.

Sorry, perhaps I should have clarified:

The 14.1" SXGA+ T61p is available on the US Lenovo store via normal consumer access (i.e. NOT Education, Corporate, UK, France, European, Canada, China, Secret Hidden Site, HMM Ghost Model, your connection to Lenovo's warehouse, etc)

This is the first I've heard of it being available to US customers through standard consumer channels.

Thank you for pointing this out-that it is now widely available to everyone. Since I was kindly given an EPP login by someone, I went ahead and placed me an order today for a T61p with the 4:3 SXGA+ screen. I don't like the fact that Lenovo makes you get the Thinkpad protection plan to get the three year warranty, but then again it is nice insurance to have and will help resale value down the road. It would have been nice to save another $160 or so, however.

Now I think I will finally be happy-I love everything about my current T60p but the widescreen. Great display, but as I have mentioned before I don't care for the extra weight or dimensions. So up forsale the T60p goes very soon!
I lost count...

Thanks for the tip OP! I've canceled my T61p 15" order and ordered the 14" model.

Has anyone received one of these yet? Is it for sure the same chassis as the T60p 14"? And how about the new T61 fan? Perhaps the reason for limiting VRAM to 128 is that the 14" still has the old cooling system.

I have an SXGA+ T61 with the nvidia 140M card and it has the new cooling system... corner vents and much quieter fan than my T43. It cycles between off and on so low it's barely audible.

One thing the 4:3 model doesn't have (at least mine) is a firewire port.
570 --> T20 --> T40 --> T43 --> T61 (4:3) --> T400 -->T420 --> T440p + X240

Anyone have the scoop on the differences between the 14" T61p vs the 15" besides the video card? (128MB vs 256MB)

Can you post some pics, please!
Is it heavier compared to the t60? How is the overall feel of it?
