Update Essentials ... how necessary are they?

#1 Post by hotkeyau » Wed Aug 08, 2007 3:23 pm

After a complete “from factory” reformat, I’m ready to use the laptop again and am wondering which updates are essential to download and install and which ones I need bother with. I have installed systemupdate3-2007-2-12 as per IBM Support’s recommendation, but am wary of downloading everything that is available, simply because of the downtime involved to download and install these. I haven’t even initialized ThinkVantage’s automatic update this time at this stage. It could be coincidence, but it seemed that my troubles started after the first and last time I utilized that option.

Can anyone suggest what updates I *should* download and install while I optionally ignore a lot of the updates available out there?

I have an R60 that I purchased from Lenovo, new, in April this year.

Thanks for reading...

MOD Edit: Moved this topic to A, G and R series.

You should always install Critical updates, recommended and optional merely depends on your personal preference. But I would suggest to check things out first and use them for a while, based on your requirement if you don't like and need any certain program you can always uninstall it.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.
