In the upper right corner of your initial post, there should be an "EDIT" button. Click on that and a message composition window will open up. Simply change the "Subject" line of that initial post and the entire thread title will change. There is a limit of 60 characters so you will need to be somewhat terse. Something like "FS Mint T42p 2373-GUU $750+shipping or pickup Durham,SC" will fit nicely.

Thanks for the help rkawakami. I kept the original title and used all 60 characters to indicate it is for sale, for new and current potential buyers alike. Due to this title amendment, it now says that my initial post was "edited 1 time in total." :)

I think it is more obvious if you put "FS" in front, like what rkawakami mentioned.

My take on it is "FS T42p 2373-GUU Mint $750+SH/PU Durham SC".

Good luck with your sale!

Not for nothing, I can't fathom why this hasn't been sold yet....

From a rational point of view, I should be the last one bumping this post, since I do have a similar (you may say competing) machine for sale...but...

For the sake of justice within the universe, someone cash out this beauty...price has been reduced, pictures tell a great story, what are you people waiting for???

And once again this place gets compared to eBay...no, I don't think so.
Anything, and I mean ANYTHING goes on eBay...not here.

In case I need to underline the obvious: THIS is the place for buying and selling thoroughbred ThinkPads, not fleabay...

Check out 320156007867, T42p uxga, for $400 shipped! Dam I missed that one by a few minutes. Looks like in good condition too.

Edit: oops, I forgot this is a for sale thread, sorry, well I know buying here gets you peace of mind as against luck of the draw at fleabay, and that deserves a premium.

And once again, this is an extremely low price even by eBay standards...there will always be sales like this for people willing to sit all day and wait and wait and wait...

Someone needs to pay the rent. Or has sickness in the family. Or car just died. Or whatever. That's NOT how you determine the market.

Average out the extremes...

I completely agree.
400 for a T42P with UXGA is just crazy.

Yup you can't stare at your computer all day. And you can't really be sure you're getting what you expect, without a full description, who knows that laptop is one lift away from a gpu problem...or several dead pixels...

But then again...dam I missed that one :D

Exactly. I did it for a while last year, refreshing the browser several times a minute for 5 hours in a row, everyday. On a lucky day, I could find one or two crazy deals comparable to this $400 T42p, but finding nothing was the norm. I could have spent that same amount of time working a part-time job and made hundreds if not thousands of dollars. It's just not worth the trouble.

BTW, the $400 T42p description doesn't specically say it has a UXGA-IPS screen. The seller could have downgraded it to XGA. This is the kind of risk people have to take buying stuff from eBay. Here on this forum, this kind of risk is minimized.

This eBay auction ended with BIN in 10 minutes if I am reading it correctly.

I noticed that the COA was removed.

Other than that this appeared to be a very good deal.

Please read what I wrote again: "The seller could have downgraded it to XGA." I once bought an A31p on eBay with an XGA screen, even though all A31p's are supposed to have UXGA-IPS.

Thanks ajkula66 and pianowizard for the insights and enthusiasm :D. I agree with you both, that the expertise from this forum provides better peace of mind from both the buyer's and seller's perspectives. As I mentioned in an earlier post, this is why I would rather sell it to a thinkpads.com community member.

To follow up on more questions that have been asked by email/PM, in terms of the chassis being opened, the memory cover at the bottom of the machine was opened in order to add the 1 GB memory stick from Crucial, but otherwise no. There are no dead pixels on the LCD, though the trackpoint sometimes gives the illusion there a temporary white one that is removed by clicking the middle trackpoint button, (this has been documented by others and is not a dead pixel).

Just to remind folks, YES, this T42p is currently up for sale! Maybe I should start a new post so buyers will not have to read two pages of posts to come to this conclusion :)

This is in response to the following PM I just received that made me chuckle

There have been two pages worth of posts since your original. I guess my main question remaining.....is the T42p still up for sale?

To clarify another question for the benefit of all, YES the optical drive this T42p contains is a ThinkPad Multi-Burner Ultrabay Slim Drive (FRU P/N 92P6110) as seen in the photo. This website:

indicates it is capable of all these read and write formats:

I, and everyone else who does person to person internet transactions, would love to see you accept PayPal. Cash at a distance is a leap of faith to say the least. I want the computer, and will pay accordingly but PayPal is the means. Im sorry to see you limit your options.

If anyone is seriously interested, and has issues with seller not accepting PayPal, may I suggest an escrow through Mr. Morrow...it's the costliest and safest of all options...does NOT get safer than that...

You guys want to make a deal? Spend some $$$ on it...and move on.

Just my $0.02

I have posted more photos of the T42p ready to ship. I have even found Thinkpad packaging for the internal shipping box, surrounded by protective outer box.

extended battery and AC adapter in package:
img]http://img512.imageshack.us/img512/3722 ... nx0.th.jpg[/img]

T42p in package:
img]http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/4306 ... pt0.th.jpg[/img]

T42p protection out of package:
img]http://img516.imageshack.us/img516/7028 ... ar9.th.jpg[/img]

Based on suggestions, I am considering starting a new thread to consolidate all the pertinent information from this thread about the sale. People may not be reading two pages of posts to figure this out.

Note from Moderator: Starting another sales thread about this same system would be almost as bad an idea as posting pictures without a warning.

I doubt that, since my (almost identical) machine is pending sale as we speak...closing this thread and starting a new one would probably be a good idea for the OP...

There is a post office on my way home from work. Last week it cost about a buck and a half & 5 min. to send a MO to someone.(George) It has been said here that sending money by mail is a leap of faith, and so it is. However nothing in life is without risk, and buying from folks here, IMHO, is about as safe as internet dealing gets. Tom
