Painting a Thinkpad?

#1 Post by DrummerDave » Fri Aug 10, 2007 9:39 am

Has anyone painted thier Thinkpad?
I'm thinking of sending my T60p off to have it painted and I was wanting to get some feedback from others who have had thier Thinkpads painted.

Thanks,
DD

If you search for "painted AND thinkpad" you'l find some threads like this one:

Instead of Powder Coating would a Auto Spray look nice on the lid?

I have already thought painting mine but can't find a good place to send the LCD cover.

eddy x2, you'll have to search hard but there was a post I remember from quite a while back of some beautiful pics of a painted cover, something called piano coating or something. Extrememly beautiful.

Yeah, I've already searched and found the topic. But the photos (or link for them) are gone :(

If I can't paint it, maybe some skin would do the trick. I looked on schtickers.com and skinit.com for some ideas.

I'm having my t41p chromed by an professional.

And of course I have my T40 orange powdercoated one.

One advice on the whole painting thing. Automotive paint are very good, BUT! Not used to heavy usage as in, in and out the bag for example.

Also, warping. Automotive paint can't warp very much, until they crack. With powdercoating this is far better.

Maybe the sticker technologie is an option for you. Looks good if you apply it correctly, and is much, much cheaper to do........
