10% Coupon Expires Tomorrow!!! (8/12)
I just went to add my T61 to the cart and it said my order qualifies for a 10% discount. I searched and I think it applies to quite a few models...
Just wanted to pass the info along and hope it saves someone some $$$. You have to configure it and add it to the cart. After that happens, there should be a link on the right to apply the coupon.
6459CTO configured = 1279.00
Less coupon savings = 1151.00
I'm going to wait one more day to maybe order. I have a T43 I'm happy with but for my uses (music), I could really use a widescreen...

For your config, I'd go Atheros on the wi-fi, lose the fingerprint reader and lower the RAM to 1GB (2 DIMM) or 512MB (buy cheaper retail RAM) if possible in order to beef up the CPU and/or OS & LCD.BradS wrote:I am thinking of buying this, think this good for a first thinkpad![]()

I think you'll be happier if you upgrade in those areas.

Why would you say 2 Dimms are better then 1 Dimm? I think they are the same price.Tholek wrote:
I think there's a moritorium on discussing the EPP here, so Google may be your best bet for more info.

Also the screen is 14.1 SXGA+ TFT I thought that was a good quality screen? Whats a better choice for the screen?
What is Atheros and where do I find that upgrade? Wifi is very important to me.
Excuse the questions but I havn't bought a new computer in ages
what is the coupon ? or how you use it.

i guess i said the magic word before ?.. i thought it's not allowed to discuss prices but just to talk in General is a problem as well ?
Admin edit: From the ThinPads.com "Rules of this Road".... "Questions about the specific purchasing program itself should be directed toward your qualifying organization."

If so, then fine. I used the 15.4" configurator last and there was a price difference at the time. Basically, I'm recommending that you don't order RAM as part of your ThinkPad, or choose the cheapest choice if you MUST include RAM. This is because you can usually find compatible RAM at a lower price at most stores and online retailers.BradS wrote:Why would you say 2 Dimms are better then 1 Dimm? I think they are the same price.
Well, that was an afterthought really. It may be the best for you if you prefer not to have a widescreen.BradS wrote:Also the screen is 14.1 SXGA+ TFT I thought that was a good quality screen? Whats a better choice for the screen?
The Wi-Fi choices list "ThinkPad" and "Intel" brand cards. The ThinkPad models are the Ateros ones. Traditionally, they are more sensitive and perform better than Intel models, and are also cheaper. The only downside is that your ThinkPad won't bear a Centrino label since inclusion of an Intel card is part of that certfication.BradS wrote:What is Atheros and where do I find that upgrade? No need to apologize. I'm just throwing out some ideas for you to consider before making a final decision.BradS wrote:Excuse the questions but I havn't bought a new computer in ages
Draft N, to be specific. There was an Atheros N card available as well. I'm unsure why it's no longer available, but both cards are draft N spec, and even the Intel may not meet, or perform as well as cards released when 802.11n is ratified. Considering how well Atheros based cards perform compared to Intel, I'd sooner wait until that Atheros card, or a newer one, is available again and upgrade to N then. Side by side they will probably do better.danny_isr wrote:Intel got the "N" as well
guys... I ran into something that's not going to allow me to purchase this T61 until next week, well after this 10 percent discount ends.
Does anyone think that there will be comparable savings soon??? Maybe another 10 percent off or something?
If not, I can charge it but i'd rather not. I have a great working T43 to tide me over if there's really good savings coming up.
thanks for any insight.
