T60 2.0GHz Processor vs Pentium M

A few days ago I purchased a T60 widescreen, which so far has lived up to my initial expectations. I do have a question about the processor, though.

I love the 1.73 Pentium M on my R52 because it runs so cool. When not under duress, it will drop down to 800MHz and typically runs in the low 40's celsius.

The T60's normal temperature is in the 48 - 60c range, and the dual core processors always remain at 2.0GHz.

My question: is there any way to facilitate a 'step-down' for the T60's processors, similar to that of the Pentium M?

I ran into this same problem, and here is the general explanation that I have received:

With the dual cores, Intel has greatly restricted the ability to underclock the processors; only computer manufacturers have the ability to do so now.

Sure your CPU can "speed down". Just to make sure that the speedstep option is enabled in BIOS, and then you can switch to the settings you want, I would recommend "Thinkpad Default", in the Lenovo Power Manager (in Windows). Since you have a 2Ghz dual-core processor, I believe the lowest frequency you can reach is 1Ghz.
