Getting a T61p - what can I cannibalize from my T40p?

#1 Post by atekant » Mon Aug 13, 2007 1:50 am

I am very soon ordering a T61p, and before I order some accessories along with it, I would like to find out if anything I have from my T40p can be used to avoid ordering anything unnecessary.

I have extra power adapters. Although the ones for the T6x say they won't work with anything else, they are all 16V adapters. Is it only a matter of different plugs?

I have an ultrabay HD adapter and several IDE HDs. I am guessing the adapter is a write-off, but is there any way to use the HDs? Is there an IDE adapter for T61s? If not, is there any way to use the IDE drives in the SATA adapters?

I have a minidock. I know I can't use it and will eventually buy one for the T61p (after my CC breathes a little). In the meantime is there any chewing gum and paperclip trick to at least get the video out on it?

I have a set of extra Trackpoint caps. I am assuming those are compatible. Anybody know otherwise?

Thanks
Argun

You can use your IDE hard drives with an Ultrabay Slim 2nd hard drive adapter for ATA (IDE) hard drives. FRU is 62P4554. Everything else is not compatible.

Yeah, the ultrabay stuff will work but the power supplies won't. Not only is the plug different but the voltage is too. The T4x is 16 volt and the T6x is 20 volt. The trackpoint caps are good too.
I don't know about the minidock.

The mini-dock is not compatible.
