Purchasing brandnew T60 with FLEXVIEW-screen for US$ 1,933

#1 Post by Marie-Anne » Tue Aug 14, 2007 2:46 am

Today I'm picking up a brandnew T60 Core2 Duo T5600, 1 GB RAM, 100GB-7200 rpm, 15 inch FLEXVIEW (1400x1050, 128 MB) for around US$ 1,933 (Euro 1,416.00)

Hopefully some members can help me, answering next questions:

1. The supplier told me that this unit has a Flexview screen, though I can't believe it as the price for this unit seems me too low for this hight quality screen. On Lenovo's website, the modelnr. does not state any reference to Flexview!. How can I assure that it still has a Flexview screen, just after opening the box of the unit, when I pick-up the unit?

2. Is it possible to upgrade the CPU anytime in the near future? Any suggestion of CPU model?

Looking forward to your answers!
Marie-Anne

Hi,

1. What is the actual model no. of this T60?
If Lenovo's specs say a 15" with a 1400 x 1050 or 1600x1200 resolution it IS a flexview.
If it says 14" og 15.4", regardless of resolution, it is not flexview.

2. Yes, if it was me i'd try a C2D 7600, but wait until the prices drop further. :)

1) Its hard to explain - if you know what a flexview screen looks like then it would be obvious at first glance, if not, then your best bet is to see the viewing angles - look at it from about a 50 degree angle downwards and if the screen still looks OK then it is likely to be flexview.

2) You could but depending on what you have been using previously, I think you will find the T5600 quite capable. Theres no point upgrading a little so the best option at the moment would be the T7700, but i'd wait to it comes down in price a bit.

Troels & Snife,

Thanks for responding and your answers.

The supplier showed me the screen from different angles, and YES it's a Flexview screen and graphics are looking absolutely fabulous.

Yes, it's a good idea to upgrade the CPU as soon as prices have been dramatically dropped.

Anyway, I'm now the proud owner of a Thinkpad with a professional IPS-screen. Ideal for my photo-editing activities.

And I'm sure I've paid a very low price for this brandnew unit, considering its configuration (i.e. IPS-screen)

Did you see it in real life or from supplied pics?

Anyways, congrats on that nice new thinkpad :D

Hello Troels,

I've seen it real life. The supplier started the laptop for me up and I noticed it immediately after I put the creen flat down on the desk.
I've compared it with a Lenovo 22 inch desktop monitor and without doubt you'll see if it's a IPS-screen or not.

This (late) evening I'll check how my high resolution photographs will look on this screen.

Definitely a flexview/IPS, please read this sticky thread.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.

In Europe it is a good deal. I don't recall VAT for the Netherlands, but it wouldn't surprise me if it's 20%.

When the T60p with UXGA was for sale here, it sold for around DKR 33,000 - which means about $6000, including 25% VAT. :D
