Lenovo 7200RPM 100Gb drive is it Hitachi ???

#1 Post by ComputerMinder » Tue Aug 14, 2007 6:10 am

I have made up my mind to go for the X61s. Now it comes with an 80gb drive which I will ditch and replac with a 7200RPM 100gb drive.

Now my question is simple, the Lenovo distributor offered me 41N3013 which he says the an IBM 100gb 7200 RPM drive. Should I buy that drive from him ? That would not void the warrenty, but I want to make sure that's the best 100gb 7200rpm drive for the X61s.

Is the Hitachi 200gb drive faster than the 100gb one? Or is it just all about the added storage?

You will not void your warranty. Theoretically, if any damage to the system was proven to be caused by the hard drive, then this would not be covered under warranty but this is so unlikely to happen its not worth considering.

The 200GB would be faster when accessing larger files I think but would not impact othre performance such as start up time etc.

thanks. no more input needed. i made up my mind. i would go for the Hitachi Travelstar 7K200 as I have read it is so much better in speed and heat so probably the way to go. I wonder how the X61s will know to move the HD RW head up when the G sensor is activated. I hope the active HD protection will still work

Yes, it will, because the accelerometer is on the motherboard, not on the hard drive.

The 100gb 7200rpm drive that shipped with mine was a Seagate
