Buy Lenovo! Great products, price and customer service!
**edited and updated Aug 21, 2007**
Folks,
Before I continue, let me say that I don't work for Lenovo, I don't have stock in the company and I am nothing but a very satisfied customer. If you have any questions about this posting, feel free to PM me, or reply to the post...
I wanted to update my posting since my computer has been delivered and Lenovo Customer Service has kicked in... Overall, my ordering process with Lenovo was a delight - I found configuring the system very easy with the on-line ordering system and found that Lenvo was more than price competitive with any of their competition (and, in my view, the thinkpads are a much higher quality system to boot).
I did have an issue with the fact that the a few days after I had ordered the system I received a coupon for an additional amount off the purchase price. When I checked on my order, I found that it had already shipped (which was a big surprise to me since the delivery time was originally set to 3 weeks out). Unfortunately, a call to customer service had me thinking that I needed to order another computer and get an RMA for the first computer in order to get the discount.
That, fortunately, turned out to not be the case! Lenvo customer service did kick in (actually thanks to the posting I had originally put in this forum) and they agreed that it was a waste of time on both our parts as well as extra shipping process and world resources. They opened a ticket and refunded the money that I would have saved by using the coupon!
I think it would be fantastic if Lenovo had a customer price guarantee that their phone service folks could work with, but I am very pleased with the service I received.
My only issue with this particular order has nothing to do with Lenovo - I would give them a 12 out of 10 for ease of ordering, price for the system and customer service! However, the fact that they use UPS as their shipping agent is a worry. I've had a number of packages lost by UPS and for this particular delivery, it ended up being delayed a number of days because of "misrouting" and "delays caused by a courier that were beyond the abilities of UPS to deal with". Since I view UPS as the courier in this case, any delays on sub-contracted companies are really delays by UPS...
I highly recommend Lenovo thinkpads (the new T61 is great) and will tell people that's what they should purchase. However, I'll also suggest that if there's another shipping option other than UPS that they may want to consider paying extra for the other service.
Thank you Lenovo!
Regards,
Steve

wired, sorry to hear of your experience so far, that does sound somewhat convoluted to say the least. Did yo order a Lenovo or a Thinkpad model? I think I'd have to bite the bullet and keep the first one rather than wait for another one that may be delayed in shipping causing further anxiety and displeasure.. Maybe you could somehow plead your case to a Lenovo rep via a phone conversation. Anyways, good luck on what you decide.
i think you can go ahead and order another exact model using your coupon, and then you still save $150. and when the machine u ordered comes, u just return that one and get a full refund (dont open the box).
this way you don't have to wait to return your thinkpad then re-order.

ordered (8/12), estimated ship date (8/30). cant wait!!!

Lenovo likes to see it's customers happy like you, I am glad things worked out.
FYI, lenovo do use other carriers like Fedex too.

interesting that UPS can't find campbell california..!
just FWIW, whil i am no fan of UPS they usually DO deliver..
when i was selling new thinkpads, i would watch the UPS shipping process from china/HK to me, here in florida..
on several occasions, out of a couple of hundred, the parcel arrived here, at my door, on the SAM DAY it was shipped..
which really means the next day, but it was fun to talk about..
usually, any delay, is due to homeland security (aka customs) delays..
why don't you copy and paste the tracking info..?
