R51 screen error on boot, also on external monitor

#1 Post by olef » Wed Aug 15, 2007 10:16 am

R51 model 2887-32G.
When booting the screen only shows weared signs and colors, which are scrooling over the screen. The scrolling stops after ca. 1 minute and then screen shows different color blocks, and nothing else happens.
Same situation on external connected monitor.
Have tried to replace the ram-module without any changes.

Is it a new main-board ?
:(

It sounds to me like your Intel video chipset has gone south. That would mean a system board replacement. Is this machine under warranty still?

Thanks for Your prompt answer !!

No, unfortunately warrenty has expired.

I guess the best way to get a new board is keeping an eye on Ebay ?
Does all R51 boards fit in my model-number ?

The R51 came with several different boards. Look at the parts matrix in the link below, starting with item #18, 'system board'. I believe any of the boards listed there would fit in your chassis. If I am wrong someone here please correct me. Good luck.
