Weird; sugo, you must have just edited your post (it previously suggested using the WWAN antenna on the UWB card).
Anyway, I seriously doubt you can use the WWAN antenna with the Wireless USB card. Wireless USB is using Ultra-Wide Band frequency ranges (between 3 and 10 GHz) while 802.11b/g uses 2.4GHz and the cellular networks in the US are broadcasting on either 800MHz or 1.9GHz. Some people may have gotten away with using the cellular antenna on their 802.11n cards since 1.9GHz is kinda close to 2.4GHz, but even then... You might find that using the antenna "works" and that it manages to radiate something for the UWB card, but I'd be willing to bet that it'd be way less than optimum.
Now, if you are not planning on using the WWAN and are going to rip the card out anyway to accommodate the UWB card (assuming that the BIOS even allows it), I don't see why the WWAN antenna could not be replaced with the proper UWB antenna.

Haha sorry I did edit my post. I suggested using the WWAN antenna as I thought 802.11a (5GHz) and 802.11b/g (2.4GHz) can use the same kind of antenna.
I asked about the swap as T60 didn't like putting WWAN card into WLAN slot (or the other way around, can't remember). I ordered a T61 14.1" 4:3 with Verizon WWAN but plan to replace it with either Wireless USB or HSDPA MC5775.

Out of curiosity, if there is a possibility that you might replace it with an HSDPA card, is there a reason why you didn't just order it with the Cingular WWAN card in the first place instead of the Verizon one?sugo wrote:I ordered a T61 14.1" 4:3 with Verizon WWAN but plan to replace it with either Wireless USB or HSDPA MC5775.

Why do you think that is Wireless USB? Because it says "UWB" on it?
Give us the MAC address, or at least the first 3 octets, so we can run it through one of the many MAC databases to find out the vendor.
I've got $5 that says it's just another WWAN card...

sugo, makes sense! Good thinking!
ZPrime, a half-height WWAN card labelled UWB? Come now.
Also, I'm pretty sure, as has already been discussed on this forum, that the WWAN cards do not use/have a MAC address. They are not ethernet devices, but rather are using the USB bus part of MiniPCI Express, and show themselves as a modem connected to a serial interface which in turn is connected to the USB bus (accepts Hayes "AT" command set).

i'll take you up on that bet. my T61p is shipping with a "42V8187 SBB THINKPAD WIRELESS USB ADPT" just like many others here.ZPrime wrote:I've got $5 that says it's just another WWAN card...
but, i could care less right now as i don't have any use for it.

Excellent observation, Nathan.
I think a wireless dock might be on the cards for the future (like the one for Toshiba R400). That would be awesome (and VERY expensive!).
