have some quick questions.

#1 Post by paOol » Wed Aug 15, 2007 2:14 pm

Here was my plan for my T61.

i was going to have 1 partition for my Windows directory (incase i ever get spyware and need to reformat it). 1 partition for the rest of my wnidows stuff (files, music, everything else). and eventually 1 other partition for OsX86.

will that work, or will there be a conflict (i don't see how there would be, but better safe)

also.

I downloaded every single T61 driver i would need (getting ready to do a clean install right when i get my system).
is it better to go through each driver 1 by 1. or use the System Update to do all of it for me?
ordered (8/12), estimated ship date (8/30). cant wait!!!

T61 14.1''(4:3) SXGA+, 2.0 ghz, 2 gig,100gig 7200rpm, Quadro 140M,

As long as you religiously use the same windows specific partition to install all the software application (aka Program Files directory) as well and use the data partition for purely storing your data (including multimedia content) this should work. Just don't use the "My documents" folder that Windows create at all otherwise that might also get wiped whenever you reinstall windows. Do remember to generously allocate enough room in the OS partition right at the beginning because it could get bloated pretty quickly and most of the times resizing partitions with Windows installation is not 100% fool proof.

Do keep in mind that this scheme doesn't save you from a HDD physical failure but only helps reinstalling Windows and other applications from scratch again without harming your data.

Not sure about the System Update. I personally install the drivers one by one or on demand by Windows when its going through the system boots first couple of times. This way I have more control over whats being installed from where and whether I want it to get installed or not.

I hope this helps.

If you install Thinkvantage System Update it will decide on itself which drivers should be installed 1st and which ones require a restart.
